610 - Abu Bakr Isma'il ibn Muhammad ibn Isma'il al-Faqih al-Rai narrated to us, who said: Muhammad ibn al-Farah al-Azraq narrated to us, who said: Hajjaj ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, from Hakimah, the daughter of Umaymah ibn Raqiqah, from her mother, who said: The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) had a cup made of sticks under his bed, and he would urinate in it at night. This is a hadith with a sound chain of transmission and an unusual Sunnah. Umaymah, the daughter of Raqiqah, is a well-known female companion, and the narrations of both of them are recorded in the works on singular companions by the imams, but they did not include them.

- .... And al-Tabarani and al-Bayhaqi narrated with a صحيح (authentic) chain from Hakimah bint Umaymah, from her mother, who said: The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) had a cup made of sticks in which he would urinate and place it under his bed. He stood up and sought it but could not find it. He asked about it and said: Where is the cup? They replied: A pious woman, a servant of Umm Salamah, who had come with her from the land of Abyssinia, drank it. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "You have preserved yourself from the Fire with a protective barrier."

14014 - And from Hakimah bint Umaimah, from her mother, who said: The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) had a cup made of sticks in which he would urinate and he would place it under his bed. One day, he got up to look for it but did not find it. So he asked and said: Where is the cup? They replied: A noble woman - the servant of Umm Salamah who had come with her from the land of Abyssinia - drank it. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "You have saved yourself from the Fire with a protective barrier." Al-Tabarani narrated it, and its men are the men of authenticity, except for Abdullah ibn Ahmad ibn Hanbal and Hakimah, and both are trustworthy.

Footnote No. 1

Hakimah binte Ameemah informed us from her mother Ameemah binte Ruqaiyyah:

Hakim said in his book al-Mustadrak: Ameemah is a famous companion of Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.), but her traditions have been discarded since they are only narrated from her and do not have any other source.

Hafiz Jamal al-Din al-Mazni narrated in Tahzeen: The mother of Ruqaiyyah was Ameemah binte Eid and he says, daughter of Abdullah Ibn Bajjad Ibn Umair and Ruqaiyyah binte Khuwaylid, sister of Khadijah binte Khuwaylid, the mother of the believers (peace be upon her).

And Zahabi said, Hakimah did not narrate except from her mother none have narrated from her other than Ibn Juraih.

And others said, Ibn Hibbah has mentioned her in in the reliable ladies but has removed her traditions from his Sahih.

She said, the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) had a vessel of date palms and he used to urinate in it and place it under his bed... this was in short.

7819 - Hakimah bint Umaymah: She narrated from her mother, Umaymah bint Raqiqah. Ibn Jurayj narrated from her. Abu Dawood and al-Nasa'i both recorded narrations from her, and we have her hadith through an elevated chain. This was narrated to us by Abu al-Hasan ibn al-Bukhari and Shamiyah daughter of al-Hasan ibn al-Bukari, who said: Abu Hafs ibn Tabarzad narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Ma'ali Abdul Khalq ibn Abdul Samad ibn al-Badan narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Ghina'im Abdul Samad ibn Ali ibn al-Mamun narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Umar al-Harbi narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn al-Hasan ibn Abdul Jabbar al-Sufi narrated to us, saying: Yahya ibn Ma'in narrated to us, saying: Hajjaj narrated to us from Ibn Jurayj, who said: Hakimah bint Umaymah narrated to me from her mother, Umaymah, that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) used to urinate in a cup made of twigs, which would then be placed under his bed. He said it was placed under his bed, and then he came to use it, but the cup was empty. He said to a woman named Barakah, who used to serve him, the mother of Habibah, that she had brought with her from the land of Abyssinia: "Where is the urine that was in the cup?" She said, "I drank it, O Messenger of Allah." Hajjaj mentioned this in a brief narrative, without the story of Barakah. However, an alternative elevated narration reached us, and Hilal ibn al-'Ala' al-Ruqki narrated from Hajjaj ibn Muhammad something similar, adding at the end: "You have indeed shielded yourself from the Fire with a shield or a garden, or something like this."

- .... Al-Tabarani and al-Bayhaqi narrated with a chain that Sheikh deemed authentic from Hakimah bint Umaymah, from her mother, who said: The Prophet (peace be upon him) had a cup made of twigs in which he would urinate and place it under his bed. He stood up and sought it, asking about it. He then said: "Where is the cup?" They replied: "Your servant Barrah drank it, the servant of Umm Salamah who came with her from the land of Abyssinia." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "You have protected yourself from the Fire with a protection." The indication of these hadiths is that the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not denounce Ibn Zubayr, nor Umm Ayman, nor anyone who acted similarly, nor did he command them to rinse their mouths, or forbid them from returning to such actions. Those who interpret this as healing may be told that he (peace be upon him) informed: "Indeed, Allah makes the remedy for His Ummah in what He has prohibited to them." Ibn Hibban narrated this in his Sahih, so it is not correct to interpret the hadiths in that manner; rather, they are clear in indicating purity.
