- Harb ibn Isma'il said: I said to Ahmad ibn Hanbal: "Ali ibn Yazid," to which he replied: "He is a Damascene seeming to regard him as weak."
- Ya'qub ibn Shaybah said: Abdullah ibn Shu'ayb narrated to me, saying: Yahya ibn Ma'in read to me: "Ali ibn Yazid al-Shami is weak."
- He also reported to me from Muhammad ibn Umar, who said: Yahya ibn Ma'in stated: "Ali ibn Yazid from al-Qasim from Abu Umamah - all of these are weak."
- Ya'qub said: "Ali ibn Yazid is unreliable in his narrations, with many deniable reports."
- Al-Ghalabi reported from Yahya ibn Ma'in: "The hadiths of Ubaydullah ibn Zahhr and Ali ibn Yazid from al-Qasim from Abu Umamah are weak and raised."
- Muhammad ibn Yazid al-Mustamli said: I said to Abi Muthsir: 'What about Ali ibn Yazid?' He replied: 'I know nothing but good. Look at who narrates from him. Ibn Abi al-'Atakah is not one of the scholars of hadith or his peers.'"
- Ibrahim ibn Ya'qub al-Jawzajani said: "I saw several imams denounce the hadiths he narrates through Ubaydullah ibn Zahhr and Ibn Abi al-'Atakah." Then I saw Ja'far ibn al-Zubayr and Bashar ibn Numayr narrating from al-Qasim hadiths similar to those, and al-Qasim was a choice, virtuous individual who met forty of the emigrants and the helpers. "I suspect that we are being misled regarding Ali ibn Yazid, as Bashar ibn Numayr and Ja'far ibn al-Zubayr are not individuals to be relied upon against anyone among the scholars."
- Abu Zur'ah al-Razi said: "He is not strong."
- Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hatim said: I asked my father about Ali ibn Yazid, and he replied: "Weak in hadith, his narrations are deniable. If what Ali ibn Yazid narrates from al-Qasim is sound, then one must examine the matter of Ali ibn Yazid."
- Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Kunani al-Isbahani said: I said to Abi Hatim: "What do you say about the hadiths of Ali ibn Yazid from al-Qasim from Abu Umamah?" He replied: 'They are not strong; they are weak.'"
- Al-Bukhari said: "Deniable in hadith and weak."
- Al-Tirmidhi and al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Nasr al-Tusi said: "He is to be considered weak in hadith."
- In another place: "Some scholars have spoken about Ali ibn Yazid and regarded him as weak."
- Al-Nasa'i said: "He is not trustworthy."
- He said in another instance: "Abandoned in hadith."
- Abu Sa'id ibn Yunus said: "There is something to consider in him."
- Abu al-Fath al-Azdiy, Abu al-Hasan al-Daraqutni, and Abu Bakr al-Barqani said: "Abandoned."
- Al-Hakim Abu Ahmad said: "His narrations are diminishing."
- Abu Ahmad ibn Adi stated: "Ali ibn Yazid has hadiths and manuscripts, and Ubaydullah ibn Zahhr narrates from Ali ibn Yazid from al-Qasim from Abu Umamah hadiths, and he himself is a sound individual, except that he narrates from someone weak, which results in issues arising from that weakness."
