Book of Funerals - Visiting the Prophet's (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) Mother's Grave
Volume: (1) - Page Number: (376)
1431 - Abu Sa'id Ahmad ibn Yaqub al-Thaqafi narrated to us, saying: Abu Shu'ayb Abdullah ibn al-Hasan al-Harani narrated to us, saying: Abdullah ibn Muhammad al-Nafir narrated to us, saying: Zuhair narrated to us, from Zubaid, from Muharib ibn Dhitar, from Ibn Buraydah, from his father, who said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) near a thousand riders, when he paused and offered two rak'ahs of prayer with us. He then turned to us, his face directed towards us and his eyes shedding tears. Umar stood up to him and, seeking to protect him with his mother and father, said: "What is wrong with you, O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)?" He replied: "I asked my Lord for permission to pray for forgiveness for my mother, but He did not grant me permission, and my eyes brimmed with tears out of compassion for her. I also sought my Lord's permission to visit her grave, and He granted me permission
and I had originally forbidden you from visiting graves, so visit them, and your visits will only increase you in goodness." This is a sound hadith according to the criteria of the twoshaykhs, and they did not include it in their collections.
