7193 - Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Ahmad ibn Abdān narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Ubayd al-Saffar narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Ibrahim ibn Malthan narrated to us, saying: Umar, who was the son of Khalid, narrated to us, from Zuhair, from Zubaid, from Muharib ibn Dithar, from Ibn Buraydah, from his father, who said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) on a journey, and we stopped at a place while he was with us, close to a thousand riders. He stood up and prayed two rak'ahs, then turned to us with his eyes shedding tears. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up to him and offered himself in sacrifice, saying, "O Messenger of Allah, what is the matter with you?" He said, "I asked my Lord for permission to seek forgiveness for my mother, but He did not grant me permission, so I cried for her out of compassion for her from the Fire.
And I had forbidden you to visit graves, so visit them now, and I had prohibited you from keeping the meat of sacrificial animals for more than three days, so eat and keep what you wish, and I had forbidden you to drink from vessels, so drink from any vessel you like, but do not drink what is intoxicating." This was narrated by Muslim in his Sahih from Yahya ibn Yahya, from Zuhair, without the story of his mother.
