Ibn Hibban - Al-Thiqat - And among those who narrated from the followers of the successors
Chapter on the letter 'Ayn' - Imam Ali ibn Musa al-Ridha (peace be upon him)
Volume: (8) - Page Number: (456)
14411 - Ali ibn Musa al-Ridha, who was Ali ibn Musa ibn Ja'far ibn Muhammad ibn Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib, Abu al-Hasan, from the leaders of the People of the House and their wise ones, and one of the prominent Hashimites and their nobles. His narrations should be regarded as reliable when reported by someone other than his sons and disciples, and especially by Abu al-Salt, for the reports that were narrated about him and identified as falsehoods are indeed the fault of Abu al-Salt and his sons and disciples, as he himself was too esteemed to lie. Ali ibn Musa al-Ridha died in Tus from a drink the Ma'mun had him take, and he died immediately thereafter, on Saturday, the last day of the year 203 AH (three hundred and two), and his grave is in Sanabadh, just outside Nukan, famous and visited, beside the grave of al-Rashid. I have visited it many times, and no hardship befell me during my stay in Tus that I did not visit the grave of Ali ibn Musa al-Ridha (peace be upon him) and pray to God to remove it from me, except that my supplication was answered, and the hardship was lifted from me. This is something I have experienced repeatedly and found to be the case. May Allah cause us to die in the love of the Chosen One (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and his Family (peace be upon them all).

627 - Q - Ali ibn Musa ibn Ja'far ibn Muhammad ibn Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib al-Hashimi, Abu al-Hasan al-Ridha.... Al-Hakim said in Tarikh Nishapur: Al-Ma'mun summoned him from Medina to Basra, then to Ahvaz, then to Persia, then to Nishapur, until he brought him to Merv, and what was to happen occurred, referring to the story of his being appointed as a successor. He said that Ali ibn Musa heard from his father and uncles, Isma'il, Abdullah, Ishaq, Ali ibn Ja'far, Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi al-Mawaali, and others from the people of Hijaz, and he would issue legal rulings (fatwas) in the Mosque of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) while he was over twenty years old. Among the imams of hadith who narrated from him were Adam ibn Abi Iyās, Nasr ibn Ali al-Jahdami, Muhammad ibn Rafiuq al-Qushayri, and others. Ali ibn Musa was martyred with a chain of narration (sanad) from his father in Tus.... on the last day of Ramadan, the night of Friday, in the year (203 AH), at the age of (49) years and six months. It was then reported through another source that he died in Safar. Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn al-Mu'mal ibn al-Hasan ibn Isa said, "We went out with the Imam of the Scholars of Hadith, Abu Bakr ibn Khuzaymah, and his equal, Abu Ali al-Thaqafi, along with a group of our scholars, who were then numerous, to visit the grave of Ali ibn Musa al-Ridha in Tus." He continued, "I saw from the way he honored, meaning Ibn Khuzaymah, that place, and his humility towards it, and his supplication at it, what bewildered us."
