16789 - Uthman ibn Umar narrated to us, who said: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Abu Ja'far, who said: I heard 'Imarah ibn Khuzaymah narrating from Uthman ibn Hunayf that a blind man came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said, "Pray to Allah to heal me." He (the Prophet) said, "If you wish, I can pray for you, and if you wish, I can delay that; it is better." The man replied, "Pray (for me)." So he (the Prophet) instructed him to perform ablution (wudu) and do it well, then pray two rak'ahs, and make this supplication: "O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through Your Prophet Muhammad, the Prophet of Mercy. O Muhammad, I turn to my Lord with You in this need of mine, so may You fulfill it for me. O Allah, grant him my intercession in this matter."

16790 - Ruḥ said: Spirit narrated to us, from Shu'bah, from Abu Ja'far al-Madini, who said: I heard 'Imarah ibn Khuzaymah ibn Thabit narrating from Uthman ibn Hunayf that a blind man came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: O Prophet of Allah, pray to Allah to heal me. He said: If you wish, I can postpone that, which is better for your Hereafter, and if you wish, I can pray for you. He said: No, rather, pray to Allah for me. So he commanded him to perform ablution, pray two units of prayer, and then make this supplication: O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through Your Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the Prophet of Mercy. O Muhammad, I turn to my Lord with You regarding this need of mine, so may He fulfill it and grant me intercession in it, and You intercede for me in it. He said that he would say this repeatedly, and then he said: I think that it also contained that you intercede for me in it. Then the man did so and was healed. Mu'mal narrated to us, saying: Hammad, meaning Ibn Salamah, narrated to us, from Abu Ja'far al-Khatmi, from 'Imarah ibn Khuzaymah ibn Thabit, from Uthman ibn Hunayf, that a man came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) who had lost his sight, and he mentioned the hadith.

It was narrated from ‘Uthman bin Hunaif that a blind man came to the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and said:

“Pray to Allah to heal me.” He said: “If you wish to store your reward for the Hereafter, that is better, or if you wish, I will supplicate for you.” He said: “Supplicate.” So he told him to perform ablution and do it well, and to pray two Rak’ah, and to say this supplication: “Allahumma inni as’aluka wa atawajjahu ilaika bimuhammadin nabiyyir-rahmah. Ya Muhammadu inni qad tawajjahtu bika ila rabbi fi hajati hadhihi lituqda. Allahumma fashaffi’hu fiya (O Allah, I ask of You and I turn my face towards You by virtue of the intercession of Muhammad the Prophet of mercy. O Muhammad, I have turned to my Lord by virtue of your intercession concerning this need of mine so that it may be met. O Allah, accept his intercession concerning me)”.

`Uthman bin Hunaif narrated that a blind man came to the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and said:

“Supplicate to Allah to heal me.” He (s) said: “If you wish I will supplicate for you, and if you wish, you can be patient, for that is better for you.” He said: “Then supplicate to Him.” He said: “So he ordered him to perform Wudu’ and to make his Wudu’ complete, and to supplicate with this supplication: ‘O Allah, I ask You and turn towards You by Your Prophet Muhammad (s), the Prophet of Mercy. Indeed, I have turned to my Lord, by means of You, concerning this need of mine, so that it can be resolved, so O Allah so accept his intercession for me (Allāhumma innī as’aluka wa atawajjahu ilaika binabiyyka Muḥammadin nabi-ir-raḥmati, innī tawajjahtu bika ila rabbī fī ḥājatī hādhihī lituqḍā lī, Allāhumma fashaffi`hu fīyya).’”

The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to him: "Say: 'O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through Your Prophet, the Prophet of Mercy, O Muhammad. I have turned to my Lord with You. O Allah, grant him intercession for me and intercede for me in myself.'" He supplicated with this prayer and then stood up, and he could see. Shabib ibn Sa'id al-Hubti narrated a follow-up from Ruh ibn al-Qasim with additional details in the text and the chain, and Shabib's commentary on it is that he is trustworthy and reliable.

1973 - Abu Muhammad Abd al-Aziz ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Sahl al-Dabbas informed us in Mecca, from the original of his book, who said: Abu Abdullah ibn Ali ibn Zayd al-Sayyagh narrated to us, who said: Ahmad ibn Shabib ibn Sa'id al-Hubti narrated to me, from my father, from Ruh ibn al-Qasim, from Abu Ja'far al-Madani, and he was al-Khatmi from Abu Umamah: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) when a blind man came to him and complained of his lost eyesight, saying: O Messenger of Allah, I have no guide, and it is difficult for me. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: Go to the place of ablution, perform wudu, then pray two units of prayer, and say: O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through Your Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), the Prophet of Mercy. O Muhammad, I turn to you with regard to your Lord, to restore my sight. O Allah, grant him intercession for me, and let me intercede for myself. Osman said: By Allah, we did not disperse, nor did the conversation prolong, until the man entered, as if he had never been blind at all. .... This is a sahih hadith according to the criteria of al-Bukhari, yet they did not narrate it. I only presented the narration of Awn ibn Amarah first because it is our practice to prioritize the higher chains of narration.

Al-Haythami - Majmac al-Zawa'id wa Manba' al-Fawa'id - Chapters on the Two Eids - Chapter on the Prayer of Need
Volume: (2) - Page Number: (279)
3668 - On the authority of Uthman ibn Hunayf: That a man used to go to Uthman ibn Affan regarding a need of his, but Uthman would not turn to him or look into his matter. So he met Uthman ibn Hunayf and complained about this to him. Uthman ibn Hunayf said to him: "Go to the place of ablution and perform wudu, then come to the mosque and pray two rak'ahs in it, and then say: 'O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), the Prophet of Mercy. O Muhammad, I turn to my Lord with you to have my need fulfilled.'" Remember your need and come to me when I come to you." So the man went and did what he was told, then he went to Uthman's door. The doorkeeper came and took his hand and led him to Uthman ibn Affan. He seated him with him on the carpet and said, "What is your need?" He mentioned his need, and Uthman fulfilled it for him, then said: "You did not mention your need until this hour." The man replied: "He would not look into my need or turn to me until I spoke to him about it." Uthman ibn Hunayf said: "By Allah, I did not speak to him, but I witnessed the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and saw him met by a blind man who complained to him about the loss of his eyesight. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to him: 'Be patient.' The man replied: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have no guide, and it is difficult for me.' The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) then said: 'Go to the place of ablution, perform wudu, pray two rak'ahs, and then call out with these words.'" Al-Haythami continued: "By Allah, we did not disperse, and our conversation prolonged, until the man entered him, looking as if he had never had any ailment at all." I say: Al-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah narrated parts of the end of this story without the incident, and al-Tabarani said afterward: "The hadith is authentic," after mentioning the chains of narration through which it was reported.

He replied: "If you wish, I can delay that, which is better, and if you wish, I can pray." Abu Musa said: "Then pray to Him." Both of them continued that he instructed him to perform ablution. Ibn Darar added: "And he (Abu Musa) said it was good." And they said he should pray two units of prayer and make this supplication: "O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through Your prophet Muhammad, the Prophet of Mercy. O Muhammad, I turn to my Lord through you in this need of mine, so fulfill it for me. O Allah, grant him my intercession." Abu Musa added: "And grant me intercession in this matter." 508 - Narrated to us by Tahir ibn Isa ibn Qiris al-Masri al-Tamimi, who said: Asbagh ibn al-Faraj narrated to us, who said: Abdullah ibn Wahb narrated to us, from Shabib ibn Sa'id al-Makki, from Ruh ibn al-Qasim, from Abu Ja'far al-Khatmi al-Madani, from Abu Umamah ibn Sahl ibn Hunayf, from his uncle Uthman ibn Hunayf, that a man used to go to Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) for a need of his, but Uthman would not pay him any attention or look into his need. He met Uthman ibn Hunayf and complained about this to him. Uthman ibn Hunayf said to him: "Go to the place of ablution (al-mayda'a), perform ablution, then come to the mosque and pray two units (rak'ahs) in it, and say: 'O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), the Prophet of Mercy. O Muhammad, I turn to you with my need to your Lord, my Lord, the Almighty, to fulfill my need.'" Remember your need, and come to me until I come with you." So the man went and did as Uthman had said. Then he went to the door of Uthman, and a doorkeeper came and took his hand, leading him to Uthman ibn Affan. Uthman seated him with him on the couch and said: "What is your need?" So he mentioned his need, and Uthman fulfilled it for him. Then he said: "You did not mention your need until this hour." He also said: "If you have any other need, come to us." Then the man left him and met Uthman ibn Hunayf, who said to him: "May Allah reward you with goodness! He would not have looked into my need or paid me any attention until I spoke to him." Uthman ibn Hunayf replied: "By Allah, I did not speak to him, but I witnessed the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) when a blind man came to him and complained about his sight diminishing. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to him: 'Will you be patient?' He answered: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have no guide, and it is difficult for me.'" The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) then said: "Go to the place of ablution, perform ablution, pray two units (rak'ahs), and then invoke with these supplications." Uthman said: "By Allah, we did not disperse, and our conversation continued for a long time, until the man entered upon us, as if he had never had any ailment at all." Ruh ibn al-Qasim narrated this, but it was only Shabib ibn Sa'id, Abu Sa'id al-Makki, who narrated it from him, and he is trustworthy. He is also the one who narrates from Ibn Ahmad ibn Shabib, from his father, from Yunus ibn Yazid al-Ibli. This hadith was also narrated by Shu'bah from Abu Ja'far al-Khatmi, whose name was Umayr ibn Yazid, and he is trustworthy. Uthman ibn Umar ibn Faris exclusively transmitted it from Shu'bah, and the hadith is authentic. This hadith was narrated by Awn ibn Umarah from Ruh ibn al-Qasim, from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), but Awn ibn Umarah erred in this, and the correct account is the narration of Shabib ibn Sa'id.

- Tahir ibn Isa ibn Qiris, the Egyptian Quran teacher, narrated to us, saying: Asbagh ibn al-Farj narrated to us, saying: Ibn Wahb narrated to us, from Abu Sa'id al-Makki, from Ruh ibn al-Qasim, from Abu Ja'far al-Khutami al-Madani, from Abu Umamah ibn Sulaym ibn Hanif, from his uncle Uthman ibn Hanif, that a man used to frequent Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) for a need of his, but Uthman would not pay him any attention or look into his issue. So, he encountered ibn Hanif and complained to him. Uthman ibn Hanif said to him: "Go to the place of ablution (mayda') and perform wudu, then go to the mosque and pray two rak'ahs in it, and then say: 'O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), the Prophet of Mercy. O Muhammad, I turn to my Lord through you to fulfill my need.'" You should then mention your need, and I will accompany you." So the man went and did as he was told, then he went to the door of Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him), and the doorman came and took his hand, bringing him into Uthman ibn Affan's (may Allah be pleased with him) presence. He seated him with him on the carpet and said: "What is your need?" So he mentioned his need, and Uthman fulfilled it for him. Then he said: "You did not mention your need until now." He added: "What other needs do you have? Mention them." Then the man remained with him, and encountered Uthman ibn Hanif, who said to him: "May Allah reward you with goodness. He would not look into my needs or pay me any attention until I spoke to you about it." Uthman ibn Hanif replied: "By Allah, I did not speak to him, but I witnessed the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) when a blind man came to him and complained of his sight being lost. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to him: 'So be patient.'" The man said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have no guide, and it is difficult for me." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: 'Go to the place of ablution (mayda'), perform wudu, then pray two rak'ahs, and then make these supplications.' Ibn Hanif said: 'By Allah, we had not yet dispersed, and we were engaged in prolonged conversation, when the man entered us, as if he had never had any ailment at all.'" Idris ibn Ja'far al-Attar narrated to us, saying: Uthman ibn Umar ibn Faris narrated to us, saying: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Abu Ja'far al-Khutami, from Abu Umamah ibn Sulaym ibn Hanif, from his uncle Uthman ibn Hanif, from the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), to a similar effect.

Al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasa'i, and al-Bayhaqi narrated through various chains from Uthman ibn Hanif that a blind man came to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and said: "Pray to God to heal me." He replied: "If you wish, I will pray, and if you wish, you can be patient. That is better for you." The man said, "Then pray." So he commanded him to perform ablution, to do it well, and to pray this supplication: "O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through Your Prophet, the Prophet of Mercy, O Muhammad. I turn to You through him to my Lord in my need, so that it may be fulfilled. O Allah, then let him intercede for me." Al-Bayhaqi added from other chains: The man stood up and could see. In another narration: The man did as instructed, and he was healed by the blessedness of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny).

- .... Al-Tabarani and al-Bayhaqi narrated with a connected chain of narration, and its narrators are trustworthy, from Uthman ibn Unayf, that a man used to frequently go to Uthman ibn Affan for a need, but Uthman would neither pay him any attention nor look into his matter. So he encountered Uthman ibn Unayf and complained to him about this. Uthman ibn Unayf said to him, "Go to the place of washing (mayda'a), perform ablution, then go to the mosque and pray two units (rak'ahs) in it." Then he said, "O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), the Prophet of Mercy. O Muhammad, I turn to You with my need before my Lord, that You may fulfill my need." You may mention your matter, and return until I return with you." So the man went and did as he was told, then he went to the door of Uthman. A doorkeeper came to him and took his hand, bringing him into Uthman's presence. He seated him with him on the cushions and said, "What is your need?" The man mentioned it and said, "You did not mention my need until now." Uthman replied, "What need did you have? Mention it." Then the man left him and encountered Uthman ibn Unayf, who said to him, "May Allah reward you with goodness. He would not look into my need or pay any attention to me until I spoke to him." Uthman ibn Unayf said, "By Allah, I did not speak to him, but I witnessed the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) when a blind man came to him and complained of his sight being lost. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to him, 'Can you be patient?' He replied, 'O Messenger of Allah, I have no guide, and it has become difficult for me.'" Then he said, "Go to the place of washing (mayda'a), perform ablution, pray two rak'ahs, and then pray with these supplications." Ibn Unayf said, "By Allah, we had not dispersed and our conversation had lengthened until the man entered upon us, as if he had never had any ailment at all."
