Volume: (2) - Page Number: (279)
3668 - And from Uthman ibn Hunaif: That a man used to frequently go to Uthman ibn Affan for a need of his, but Uthman would not turn to him or look into his matter. So he met Uthman ibn Hunaif and complained about this to him. Uthman ibn Hunaif said to him: "Go to the place of ablution (Maydah) and perform wudu, then come to the mosque and pray two rak'ahs in it, then say: 'O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), the Prophet of Mercy. O Muhammad, I turn to Allah with You as my intercessor for my need to be fulfilled.'" Remember your need and come back to me when I return with you." So the man went and did what he was told, then he went to the door of Uthman. The doorman came and took his hand, bringing him into Uthman ibn Affan. He seated him with him on the tufted carpet and said: "What is your need?" So he mentioned his need, and Uthman fulfilled it for him. Then he said: "You did not mention your need until this moment." And he added: "If you have any other needs, come to us." The man then left him and met Uthman ibn Hunaif, and said to him: "May Allah reward you with goodness! He was not looking into my need or turning to me until I spoke to him about it." Uthman ibn Hunaif replied: "By Allah, I did not speak to him, but I witnessed the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) when a blind man came to him and complained of his sight returning. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to him: 'Be patient.' The man replied: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have no guide, and it is difficult for me.' The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) then said: 'Go to the place of ablution and perform wudu, then pray two rak'ahs, and then pray with these words.'" Uthman ibn Hunaif said: "By Allah, we did not disperse, and our conversation lasted a long time, until the man entered him, seeming as if he had no ailment at all." I say: Al-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah narrated parts of the end of this account, excluding the story, and al-Tabarani said he followed it, and the hadith is authentic after mentioning the chains through which it was narrated.

Volume: (10) - Page Number: (24) - Footnote: 1
- .... And al-Tabarani narrated it and mentioned a story at the beginning, which is: That a man used to come to Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) for a need of his, and Uthman would not pay him any attention nor look into his need. So he met Uthman ibn Hunayf and complained about this to him. Uthman ibn Hunayf said to him: Go to the place of ablution (mayda'a), perform ablution, then go to the mosque and pray two rak'ahs in it, and then say: 'O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through our Prophet Muhammad, the Prophet of Mercy. O Muhammad, I turn to my Lord through you to fulfill my need.' Remember your need and come to me, and I will go with you.' So the man went and did what he said, then came to Uthman's door. The doorman came and took his hand and brought him in to Uthman ibn Affan. He seated him with him on the rug and said: What is your need? So he mentioned his need, and Uthman fulfilled it for him. Then he said: You did not mention your need until this moment. He added: If you have any other needs, come to us. Then the man left him and met Uthman ibn Hunayf and said to him: May Allah reward you with good! He would not look into my need or pay me any attention until I spoke to him about it. Uthman ibn Hunayf replied: By Allah, I did not speak to him, but I witnessed the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) when a blind man came to him and complained of his sight being lost. The Prophet asked him: Can you be patient? He said: O Messenger of Allah, I have no guide, and it is difficult for me. The Prophet then said: Go to the place of ablution, perform ablution, pray two rak'ahs, and then invoke Allah with these supplications. Uthman ibn Hunayf said: So, by Allah, we did not disperse, and our conversation prolonged until the man entered us, looking as if he had never had any blindness at all. Al-Tabarani, after mentioning its various chains, said: And the hadith is authentic.
So it is in al-Targhib, and Imam Ibn Taymiyya, in his letter on intercession and means, after mentioning the hadith of Uthman ibn Hunayf, stated the following: And this hadith of the blind man has been narrated by those who compile evidences of prophethood, such as al-Bayhaqi and others. He then elaborated on the various chains and their wording (from the hadith of Abu Ja'far, who is not al-Khathami). Imam Ibn Taymiyya said: Thus, it appears in al-Tirmidhi, and other scholars stated: He is Abu Ja'far, and this is correct.

508 - Taher ibn Isa ibn Qeiris al-Misri al-Tamimi narrated to us, saying: Asbagh ibn al-Faraj narrated to us, saying: Abdullah ibn Wahb narrated to us, from Shubeib ibn Sa'id al-Makki, from Ruh ibn al-Qasim, from Abu Ja'far al-Khutami al-Madani, from Abu Umamah ibn Sahel ibn Hanif from his uncle Uthman ibn Hanif: that a man used to go to Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) for a need of his, and Uthman would not pay him any attention or look into his need. So he met Uthman ibn Hanif and complained about this to him. Uthman ibn Hanif said to him: "Go to the place of ablution, perform wudu (ablution), then come to the mosque and pray two rak'ahs in it, and say: 'O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), the Prophet of Mercy. O Muhammad, I turn to you to your Lord, my Lord, the Almighty, to fulfill my need.'" Remember your need and return to me until I return with you. So the man went and did what Uthman had told him. Then he came to the door of Uthman, and the doorkeeper came, took his hand, and brought him into Uthman ibn Affan, who seated him with him on the carpet and said: "What is your need?" So he mentioned his need, and Uthman fulfilled it for him. Then Uthman said to him: "You did not mention your need until this hour," and he added: "If you have any other need, come to us." Then the man left him and met Uthman ibn Hanif, who said to him: "May Allah reward you with goodness! He would not look into my need or pay me any attention until I spoke to him about it." Uthman ibn Hanif replied: "By Allah, I did not speak to him, but I witnessed the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) when a blind man came to him and complained of his blindness. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) asked him: 'Will you be patient?' The man replied: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have no guide, and it is difficult for me.'" Then the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Go to the place of ablution, perform wudu, pray two rak'ahs, and then invoke Allah with these supplications." Al-Tabarani said: "By Allah, we did not disperse, and our conversation prolonged, until the man entered upon us, looking as if he had never had any ailment at all." This was not narrated from Ruh ibn al-Qasim except by Shubeib ibn Sa'id Abu Sa'id al-Makki, and he is trustworthy. He is the one who narrates from Ibn Ahmad ibn Shubeib, from his father, from Yunus ibn Yazid al-Abli. And this hadith was narrated by Shu'ba from Abu Ja'far al-Khutami, whose name was Umayr ibn Yazid, and he is also trustworthy. Uthman ibn Umar ibn Fars uniquely narrated it from Shu'ba, and the hadith is sound. This hadith was also narrated by Awn ibn Umara from Ruh ibn al-Qasim, from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), and in this Awn ibn Umara was mistaken; the correct account is the narration of Shubeib ibn Sa'id.

- Tahir ibn Isa ibn Qayras al-Masri al-Muqri' narrated to us, saying: Asbagh ibn al-Farj narrated to us, saying: Ibn Wahb narrated to us, from Abu Sa'id al-Makki, from Ruh ibn al-Qasim, from Abu Ja'far al-Khatmi al-Madini from Abu Umamah ibn Sahl ibn Hunayf, from his uncle Uthman ibn Hunayf, that a man used to go to Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding a need of his, and Uthman would neither pay him any attention nor look into his need. He met ibn Hunayf and complained about this to him. Uthman ibn Hunayf said to him: "Go to the place of ablution, perform wudu, then go to the mosque and pray two rak'ahs in it, and then say: 'O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), the Prophet of Mercy. O Muhammad, I turn to my Lord through you, that You fulfill my need for me.'" You can then remember your need, and I will come back with you." So the man went and did as he was told, then he came to the door of Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him). The doorkeeper came and took him by the hand and brought him in to Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him), and seated him with him on the mat. Uthman asked, "What is your need?" and he mentioned his need, which Uthman fulfilled for him. Then Uthman said to him, "You didn't mention your need until just now," and added, "What other need do you have? Mention it." The man then persisted in his presence. He met Uthman ibn Hunayf and said to him, "May Allah reward you with goodness! He would not look into my needs or pay me any attention until I spoke to you about it." Uthman ibn Hunayf replied, "By Allah, I did not speak to him, but I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and a blind man came to him, complaining of his sight being lost. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to him, 'Be patient.'" The man said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have no guide, and it is difficult for me." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "Go to the place of ablution, perform wudu, then pray two rak'ahs, and then pray with these supplications." Idris ibn Ja'far al-Ittar narrated to us, saying: Uthman ibn Umar ibn Fars narrated to us, saying: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Abu Ja'far al-Khatmi, from Abu Umamah ibn Sahl ibn Hunayf, from his uncle Uthman ibn Hunayf, from the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), to the same effect.

- Abu Sa'id Abd al-Malik ibn Abi Uthman al-Zahid narrated to us, saying: Imam Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Ishaq al-Shashi al-Qaffal narrated to us, saying: Abu Urobah narrated to us, saying: Al-Abbas ibn al-Faraj narrated to us, saying: Isma'il ibn Shabib narrated to us, from my father, from Ruh ibn al-Qasim, from Abu Ja'far al-Madini from Abu Umamah ibn Sahl ibn Hunayf: that a man used to go to Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) with a need of his, and Uthman would not pay attention to him or look into his need. So he met Uthman ibn Hunayf and complained to him about this. Uthman ibn Hunayf said to him: "Go to the place of ablution, perform wudu, then go to the mosque and pray two rak'ahs, then say: 'O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through Your Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), the Prophet of Mercy. O Muhammad, I turn to my Lord through You to have my need fulfilled.'" Then mention your need and go until I raise my hand." So the man went and did that, then came to the door of Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him), and the doorkeeper came, took his hand, and brought him in to Uthman, seating him with him on the mat. Uthman said: "See what need you have.", Then the man left him and met Uthman ibn Hunayf, and said to him: "May Allah reward you with goodness! He would not look into my need or pay attention to me until I spoke to him." Uthman ibn Hunayf said: "I did not speak to him, but I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) when a blind man came to him and complained of his blindness. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to him: 'Can you be patient?'" He replied: "O Messenger of Allah, I have no one to lead me, and it is difficult for me." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Go to the place of ablution, perform wudu, pray two rak'ahs, then say: 'O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through Your Prophet, the Prophet of Mercy. O Muhammad, I turn to my Lord through You to restore my sight.' Allah, grant him your intercession in my case, and intercede with me for myself." Uthman said: "By Allah, we had not continued our discussion for long until the man entered, as if he had no impairment." Ahmad ibn Shabib also narrated this from Sa'id ibn Abi Uthman, mentioning it in full. Abu Ali al-Hasan ibn Ahmad ibn Ibrahim ibn Shahdan narrated to us, saying: Abdullah ibn Ja'far ibn Durustuyeh narrated to us, saying: Ya'qub ibn Sufyan narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Shabib ibn Sa'id narrated to us, and mentioned it in full. This is an addition I have included with it in the month of Ramadan in the year 44. Hisham al-Dustuwayi also narrated it from Abu Ja'far, from Abu Umamah ibn Sahl, from his uncle, who was Uthman ibn Hunayf.

4928 - Abu Amr narrated to us, saying: Al-Hasan narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Isa narrated to us, saying: Ibn Wahb narrated to me, from Abu Sa'id, whose name was Shubayb ibn Sa'id, a man from Basra, about Abu Ja'far al-Madani, from Abu Umamah ibn Sahil ibn Hunayf from his uncle Uthman ibn Hunayf: that a man used to go to Uthman ibn Affan for a need of his, but Uthman would not pay him any attention. So he met Ibn Hunayf and complained about this to him. Uthman ibn Hunayf said to him: "Go to the place of ablution (maydah) and perform wudu, then come to the mosque and pray two rak'ahs in it, and say: 'O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through Your Prophet Muhammad, the Prophet of Mercy. O Muhammad, I turn to my Lord through You, so fulfill my need.'" Remember your need, then return until I come back." So the man went and did as he was told, then he went to the door of Uthman ibn Affan. The doorkeeper came to him and took his hand, leading him to Uthman. He seated him with him on the cushion and said: "What is your need?" He mentioned it to him, and Uthman fulfilled it, then said: "I did not understand your need until just now," and added: "What you needed from him was not going to be addressed." Then the man left Uthman's presence and met Uthman ibn Hunayf, who said to him: "May Allah reward you with good! He would not look into my need or pay me any attention until you spoke to him on my behalf." Uthman ibn Hunayf replied: "I did not speak to him, but I witnessed the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) when a blind man came to him and complained of his sight being lost. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to him: 'Can you be patient?' He replied: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have no guide, and it is difficult for me.' The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) then said: 'Go to the place of ablution and perform wudu, then pray two rak'ahs, and then supplicate with these supplications.'" Ibn Hunayf said: "By Allah, we did not disperse, and a lengthy conversation ensued, until the man entered upon us, looking as if he had never had any ailment at all." Abbas al-Duri narrated this from Awn ibn Umarah, from Ruwh ibn al-Qasim. Some later scholars mentioned it among a group of narrations from Shu'bah and Hammad, from Abu Ja'far, from Umarah ibn Khuzaymah, from Uthman. Ruwh's narration is from Abu Umamah, from his uncle. Abu Muhammad ibn Hayyan narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Abbas al-Harawi narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Abd al-Malik narrated to us, saying: Awn ibn Umarah narrated to us, from Ruwh ibn al-Qasim, that he informed them from Abu Ja'far, from Abu Umamah ibn Sahil, from his uncle Uthman ibn Hunayf, and he did not separate it from the narration of Umarah, who was the son of Abu Umamah.

- .... Al-Tabarani and al-Bayhaqi narrated with a continuous chain of narration, and its narrators are trustworthy, from Uthman ibn Hanif that a man used to go to Uthman ibn Affan regarding a need, but Uthman would not pay attention to him or consider his matter. So he met Uthman ibn Hanif and complained to him about this. Uthman ibn Hanif said to him: Go to the place of ablution, perform ablution, then go to the mosque and pray two rak'ahs in it. Then say: O Allah, I ask You and turn to You with our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), the Prophet of Mercy. O Muhammad, I turn to my Lord with you to have my need fulfilled, and remember your need, and come along until I return with you. The man went and did as he was told, then went to the door of Uthman. The doorkeeper came to him, took his hand, and admitted him to Uthman, seating him beside him on the cushions. Uthman said: What is your need? He mentioned it to him and said: You did not mention your need until now. Uthman continued: What need do you have? Mention it. The man left him and met Uthman ibn Hanif, who said: May Allah reward you with goodness. He would not consider my need or pay attention to me until I spoke to him. Uthman ibn Hanif replied: By Allah, I did not speak to him, but I witnessed the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) when a blind man approached him and complained of his sight being lost. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to him: Can you be patient? He replied: O Messenger of Allah, I have no one to lead me, and it is difficult for me. The Prophet said: Go to the place of ablution, perform ablution, then pray two rak'ahs, and then call upon Allah with these supplications. Ibn Hanif said: So, by Allah, we did not disperse, and a lengthy conversation ensued, until the man entered upon us as if he had never had any affliction at all.
