4928 - Abu Amr narrated to us, saying: Al-Hasan narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Isa narrated to us, saying: Ibn Wahb narrated to me, from Abu Sa'id, whose name was Shubayb ibn Sa'id, a man from Basra, about Abu Ja'far al-Madani, from Abu Umamah ibn Sahil ibn Hunayf from his uncle Uthman ibn Hunayf: that a man used to go to Uthman ibn Affan for a need of his, but Uthman would not pay him any attention. So he met Ibn Hunayf and complained about this to him. Uthman ibn Hunayf said to him: "Go to the place of ablution (maydah) and perform wudu, then come to the mosque and pray two rak'ahs in it, and say: 'O Allah, I ask You and turn to You through Your Prophet Muhammad, the Prophet of Mercy. O Muhammad, I turn to my Lord through You, so fulfill my need.'" Remember your need, then return until I come back." So the man went and did as he was told, then he went to the door of Uthman ibn Affan. The doorkeeper came to him and took his hand, leading him to Uthman. He seated him with him on the cushion and said: "What is your need?" He mentioned it to him, and Uthman fulfilled it, then said: "I did not understand your need until just now," and added: "What you needed from him was not going to be addressed." Then the man left Uthman's presence and met Uthman ibn Hunayf, who said to him: "May Allah reward you with good! He would not look into my need or pay me any attention until you spoke to him on my behalf." Uthman ibn Hunayf replied: "I did not speak to him, but I witnessed the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) when a blind man came to him and complained of his sight being lost. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to him: 'Can you be patient?' He replied: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have no guide, and it is difficult for me.' The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) then said: 'Go to the place of ablution and perform wudu, then pray two rak'ahs, and then supplicate with these supplications.'" Ibn Hunayf said: "By Allah, we did not disperse, and a lengthy conversation ensued, until the man entered upon us, looking as if he had never had any ailment at all." Abbas al-Duri narrated this from Awn ibn Umarah, from Ruwh ibn al-Qasim. Some later scholars mentioned it among a group of narrations from Shu'bah and Hammad, from Abu Ja'far, from Umarah ibn Khuzaymah, from Uthman. Ruwh's narration is from Abu Umamah, from his uncle. Abu Muhammad ibn Hayyan narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Abbas al-Harawi narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Abd al-Malik narrated to us, saying: Awn ibn Umarah narrated to us, from Ruwh ibn al-Qasim, that he informed them from Abu Ja'far, from Abu Umamah ibn Sahil, from his uncle Uthman ibn Hunayf, and he did not separate it from the narration of Umarah, who was the son of Abu Umamah.
