Al-Haythami - Majma' al-Zawa'id wa Manba' al-Fawa'id
Book of Virtues - Chapter on the Virtues of Fatimah bint Asad, mother of Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him)
Volume: (9) - Page Number: (256)
15399 - Anas ibn Malik reported: When Fatimah bint Asad ibn Hashim, mother of Ali (peace be upon him), passed away, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered upon her and sat at her head. He said: "May Allah have mercy on you, O my mother! You were my mother after my mother. You would go hungry while you filled me, you would be without clothes while you clothed me, and you would withhold good things from yourself while you fed me, seeking through this the pleasure of Allah and the Hereafter." Then he commanded that she be washed three times. When the water with which she was to be washed reached the one containing camphor, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) poured it with his own hand. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) removed his shirt and dressed her in it, and he shrouded her with a cloak over it. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called Osamah ibn Zayd, Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, Umar ibn al-Khattab, and a black youth, and they began to dig her grave. When they reached the grave chamber, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) dug it with his own hand and removed its soil with his own hand. When he finished, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered and lay down in it, saying: "Allah is the One who gives life and causes death, and He is Ever-Living, never dies. O Allah, forgive my mother, Fatimah bint Asad, and grant her success in her testimony. Expand her entrance with Your blessings, for the sake of Your Prophet and the prophets who came before me. Indeed, You are the Most Merciful of the merciful." He prayed over her with four takbirs, and he and al-Abbas and Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (peace be upon them) buried her in the grave. This was narrated by al-Tabarani in al-Kabir and al-Awsat, and in it was Ruh ibn Salah, whom Ibn Hibban and al-Hakim deemed trustworthy; however, there is some weakness in it, while the rest of its narrators are men of rigor.

189 - Ahmad ibn Hammad ibn Zughbah narrated to us, saying: Ruah ibn Salah narrated to us, saying: Sufyan al-Thawri narrated to us, from Asim al-Ahwal, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: When Fatimah bint Asad ibn Hashim, the mother of Ali, died, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered upon her and sat at her head, saying: May Allah have mercy on you, O my mother. You were a mother to me after my mother. You would go hungry while you filled me, you would be without clothes while you clothed me, and you would deny yourself good food while you fed me, seeking thereby the face of Allah and the home of the Hereafter. Then he ordered that she be washed three times. When the water mixed with camphor was ready, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) poured it over her with his own hand. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) removed his cloak and dressed her in it, and she was buried in it. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called Usama ibn Zayd, Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, Umar ibn al-Khattab, and a black youth to dig her grave, and they dug it. When they reached the niche, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) dug it with his own hand and removed the soil with his own hand. When he finished, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered and lay down in it, saying: Allah is the One who gives life and causes death, and He is alive, never dying. O Allah, forgive my mother, Fatimah bint Asad, and make her firm in her faith. Grant her a spacious entrance by the right of Your Prophet and the prophets who came before me, for You are the Most Merciful of the Merciful. Then he prayed over her with four takbirs, and he, along with Abbas and Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, buried her. No one narrated this hadith from Asim al-Ahwal except Sufyan al-Thawri; Ruah ibn Salah was unique in this.

Chapter on the letter Fa - Fatimah bint Asad ibn Hashim, mother of Ali ibn Abi Talib
Volume: (24) - Page Number: (351)
871 - Ahmad ibn Hammad ibn Zuqbah narrated to us, saying: Ruh ibn Salah narrated to us, saying: Sufyan al-Thawri narrated to me, from Asim al-Ahwal, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: When Fatimah bint Asad ibn Hashim, mother of Ali ibn Abi Talib, passed away, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered upon her, sat by her head, and said: "May Allah have mercy on you, O my mother! You were a mother to me after my mother. You would satisfy me and deprive yourself, dress me and go bare, and withhold from yourself good things while providing for me, seeking thereby the face of Allah and the Hereafter." Then he instructed that she be washed three times, and when the water with camphor was prepared, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) poured it with his own hand. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) took off his shirt and dressed her in it, and he shrouded her with a cloak over it. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called Osama ibn Zayd, Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, Umar ibn al-Khattab, and a black boy to dig her grave, and they dug it. When they reached the tomb, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) dug it with his own hand and removed the soil with his own hand. When he finished, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered and lay down in it, then said: "Allah is the One who gives life and causes death, and He is alive, never to die. Forgive my mother, Fatimah bint Asad, and teach her your arguments. Make her entrance wide for her in the right of your Prophet and the prophets who came before me, for You are the most merciful of the merciful." He performed four takbirs over her and he, along with Abbas and Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, buried her in the tomb.

- Suleiman ibn Ahmad narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Hammad ibn Raghba narrated to us, saying: Ruh ibn Salah narrated to us, saying: Sufyan narrated to us from Asim, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: When Fatimah bint Asad ibn Hashim, the mother of Ali ibn Abi Talib, passed away, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered upon her and sat at her head. He said: "May Allah have mercy on you, for you were a mother to me after my mother. You would go hungry while you filled me, you would be undressed while you clothed me, and you would withhold good food from yourself while you fed me, seeking through this the face of Allah and the abode of the Hereafter." Then he commanded that she be washed three times, thrice. When the water with camphor in it was prepared, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) poured it with his own hands. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) removed his cloak and dressed her in it, burying her in it thereafter. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called Usamah ibn Zayd, Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, Umar ibn al-Khattab, and a young black man to dig her grave. When they reached the loculus, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) himself dug it and removed the soil with his hands. When he finished, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered and lay down in it, then said: "Praise be to Allah who gives life and causes death, and He is Living and does not die. Forgive my mother, Fatimah bint Asad, and teach her the testimony of faith. Expand her entrance with the right of Your Prophet and the prophets who preceded me, for You are the Most Merciful of the merciful." He then performed four takbirs over her and, along with al-Abbas and Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, placed her in the loculus. This is a strange account from the narration of Asim and al-Thawri, and we only recorded it from the narration of Ruh ibn Salah, who was unique in this.

You would hunger while feeding me until I was full, leave yourself bare while clothing me, and deny yourself good things while making me comfortable, desiring thereby the Face of Allah and the Hereafter. O Allah, who gives life and causes death, and who is Alive, never dying, forgive my mother, Fatimah bint Asad, and teach her your proof, and enlarge her entrance with the right of your Prophet and the prophets who came before, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

- .... Al-Tabarani narrated in al-Kabir and al-Umsat with men of sahih (authentic) authenticity, except for Ruh ibn Salah, whom Ibn Hibban deemed trustworthy, and there is weakness in it from Anas ibn Malik, and al-Tabarani in al-Umsat with trustworthy men except for Sa'dan ibn al-Walid. Their narrators can be clarified from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), who said: When Fatimah bint Asad ibn Hashim, the mother of Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him), passed away, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered upon her and sat by her head, and he said: "May Allah have mercy on you, O my mother! You were a mother to me after my mother. You would go hungry while you filled me, you would be unclothed while you clothed me, you would deny yourself good things while you fed me, seeking thereby the face of Allah the Exalted and the Home of the Hereafter." Then he commanded that she be washed three times. When the water with the camphor reached her, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) poured it with his own hand. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) removed his shirt and dressed her in it, and he wrapped her in a cloak over it. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called Ubayd ibn Zayd, Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, and Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with them) and a young black boy to dig her grave, and they dug her grave. When they reached the loculus, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) dug it with his own hand and removed its soil. When he finished, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered her grave and lay down in it, and then he said: "Allah is the One who gives life and causes death, and He is alive and does not die. Forgive my mother, Fatimah bint Asad, and teach her your testament, and make her entry into the hereafter spacious in return for your Prophet and the prophets who came before me, for you are the Most Merciful of the merciful." He prayed over her with four takbirs, and the ones who entered the loculus were al-Abbas and Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with them). Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When they leveled the soil over her, some said: "O Messenger of Allah, we saw you do something with her that you did not do with anyone else." He said: "I dressed her in my shirt so that she would wear from the garments of Paradise and lay in her grave to lighten for her the pressure of the grave. She was the one who did the best of all of God's creation to me after Abu Talib."

10 - And شيخ القاضي imam al-zahid Zayn al-a'immah Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Ahmad al-Asimi al-Khwarizmi informed us, saying: al-Qadi imam Shaykh al-Qudat Isma'il ibn Ahmad al-Wa'izh informed us, as did my father Shaykh al-Sunnah Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn al-Husayn al-Bayhaqi, who said: Ali ibn Ahmad ibn Abdān informed us, and Suleiman ibn Ahmad ibn Ayyub narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Hammad ibn Raghbah al-Masri narrated to us, from Ruh ibn Salah, from al-Thawri, from Asim al-Ahwāl, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: When Fatimah bint Asad ibn Hashim, the mother of Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him), passed away, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered upon her and sat at her head. He said: "May Allah have mercy on you, O my mother! You were a mother to me after my mother. You would go hungry while you filled me, and you would go naked while you clothed me. You would withhold from yourself the finest foods and feed me, seeking thereby the face of Allah, the Exalted, and the Hereafter." Then he ordered that she be washed three times, and when they reached the water containing camphor, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) poured it with his noble hand. Then he removed his shirt and dressed her in it, and she was buried in it. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called for Usamah ibn Zayd, Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, Umar ibn al-Khattab, and a black servant boy, and they dug her grave. When they reached her grave, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) dug it with his own hands and removed the soil with his own hands. When he had finished, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered and reclined in it, then said: "O Allah, You who gives life and causes death, and who is alive without dying, forgive my mother, Fatimah bint Asad, and inspire her with her testimony. Grant her a spacious entrance in recognition of Your Prophet, Muhammad, and the prophets who were before me, for You are the Most Merciful of the merciful." He then prayed over her with fourTakbirs and placed her in the grave, along with al-Abbas and Abu Bakr.
