- ....
from Sulaym ibn Amir al-Khabairi: that the heavens were barren, so Muawiya ibn Abi Sufyan and the people of Damascus went out to seek rain. When Muawiya sat on the minbar, he said: "Where is Yazid ibn al-Aswad al-Jurashi?" The people called out to him, and he came, making his way through the crowd. Muawiya ordered him to climb the minbar, and he sat at his feet. Muawiya then said: "O Allah, we seek intercession with You today through our best and most virtuous." Allah, we seek intercession with You today through Yazid ibn al-Aswad al-Jurashi. O Yazid, raise your hands to Allah. Yazid raised his hands, and the people raised their hands too. Before long, a cloud stirred in the west, resembling a shield, stirred by the wind, and it rained on us until the people could barely reach their homes.
- Abu al-Qasim ibn al-Samarqandi narrated to us: Abu Bakr narrated to us: Abu al-Husayn narrated to us: Abdullah narrated to us: Yaqub narrated to me: Sa'id ibn Asad narrated to us: Dumra, from Ali ibn Abi Hamlata, who said: The people were struck by drought in Damascus, and Duhak ibn Qays al-Fihri was in charge of them. He went out with the people to seek rain and said: "Where is Yazid ibn al-Aswad al-Jurashi?" No one answered him. He repeated, "Where is Yazid ibn al-Aswad al-Jurashi?" and still no one answered. Then he said: "Where is Yazid ibn al-Aswad al-Jurashi? I command you, if you can hear my words, to stand up." He stood up, wearing a cloak, and turned to the people with his face, raising the sides of his cloak on his shoulders, and then lifted his hands.
Then he said: "O Lord, Your servants have drawn near to You through me, so provide them with rain." The people returned, walking in water. Then he said: "O Allah, he has made me a witness, so relieve me of him." It was not long before a week passed, and Duhak was killed.
- Abu al-Qasim Zaher ibn Tahir narrated to us: Abu Bakr al-Bayhaqi narrated to us: Abu Abdullah and Muhammad ibn Musa both said: Abu al-Abbas al-Asamm narrated to us: Al-Rabi ibn Sulayman narrated to us: Ayub ibn Suwayd narrated to us:
Abu Zur'a said: Duhak ibn Qays went out and sought rain with the people, but it did not rain, and they did not see any clouds. Duhak said: "Where is Yazid ibn al-Aswad?" Someone replied, "Here I am." Duhak said: "Stand up and intercede for us with Allah to grant us rain." He stood up, shrugged his cloak over his shoulders, and bared his arms, saying: "O Allah, these Your servants seek intercession through me to You." He did not pray except three times until it rained, a downpour so heavy they were nearly drowning from it. Then he said: "O Allah, this has made me a witness, so relieve me of it." No week passed after that until he died.
- Abu Muhammad ibn al-Akfani and ibn al-Samarqandi both narrated to us: Al-Hasan ibn Abi Hadid narrated to me: Abu Muhammad ibn Abi Nasr narrated to us: Abu Ali al-Hasan ibn Habib narrated to us: Yazid ibn Abd al-Samad narrated to us: Abu Mashar narrated to us:
Sa'id ibn Abd al-Aziz said that Yazid ibn al-Aswad stood and said: "O Allah, Your creation has sent me to You as an envoy, so do not return me disappointed." Then what appeared in the sky was a flurry, and they did not leave until it rained.
