- .... And Safwan ibn Amr narrated from Sulaym ibn 'Amir, who said: Mu'awiyah went out to seek rain, and when he sat on the pulpit, he said: Where is Yazid ibn al-Aswad? The people called to him, and he came, stepping over them. Mu'awiyah commanded him to ascend the pulpit, and Mu'awiyah said: O Allah, we seek intercession with You through our best and most virtuous, Yazid ibn al-Aswad. O Yazid, raise your hands to Allah. So he raised his hands, and the people raised theirs, and it was not long before a cloud like a shield stirred, and a wind blew, and we were rained upon until the people were almost unable to reach their homes.
- .... Abu al-Yaman heard this from Safwan and Said ibn Abd al-Aziz and others said that al-Duhhak ibn Qays sought rain with Yazid ibn al-Aswad, and they did not remain until it rained.

- .... Al-Hakim ibn Nafi' narrated to us from Safwan ibn Amr from Sulaym ibn Amir that the people faced drought in Damascus, so Muawiyah went out to seek rain by appealing to Yazid ibn al-Aswad. This is a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, as the Hafiz said in al-Talkhis (151). He also mentioned that Abu al-Qasim al-Lalakai narrated it in al-Sunnah in the chapter on the Miracles of the Awliya from it.
- .... As for the intercession of al-Dhahhak, Abu Zur'ah also narrated it: and Abu Mus'hir said: Al-Dhahhak ibn Qays went out to seek rain and said to Yazid ibn al-Aswad, "Get up, you weeper." Its narrators are trustworthy, but it is an interrupted chain between Sa'id and al-Dhahhak. However, there is another route for it.

Naming those who settled in Sham from the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) - 3825: Yazid ibn al-Aswad al-Jurashi
Volume: (7) - Page Number: (309)
3825 - I was informed by Abu al-Yaman, from Safwan ibn Amr from Sulaym ibn Amir al-Khabairi, that the sky became drought-stricken during the time of the emergence of Mu'awiya ibn Abi Sufyan, and the people of Damascus were seeking rain. When Mu'awiya sat on the pulpit, he said: "Where is Yazid ibn al-Aswad al-Jurashi?" Then the people called out to him, and he came, making his way through the crowd. Mu'awiya instructed him to ascend the pulpit, and he sat at Mu'awiya's feet. Mu'awiya then said: "O Allah, we seek intercession with You today through our best and finest. O Allah, we seek intercession with You by Yazid ibn al-Aswad al-Jurashi. O Yazid, raise your hands to Allah." So Yazid raised his hands, and the people raised their hands, and it was not long before a cloud stirred in the west, and a wind blew toward it, and we were rained upon until the people could hardly reach their homes.

151 - Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr and Abd al-Wahid ibn Muhammad narrated to us, saying: Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Ishaq al-Jawhari narrated to us, saying: Ibrahim ibn Abi Dawud narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Yaman al-Hakam ibn Nafi narrated to us, saying: Safwan ibn Amr narrated to us from Sulaym ibn Amir al-Khubayri that the sky withheld rain, so Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan and the people of Damascus went out to seek rain. When Muawiyah sat on the pulpit, he said: "Where is Yazid ibn al-Aswad al-Jurashi?" The people called out to him, and he came, making his way through the crowd. Muawiyah then instructed him to ascend the pulpit, and he sat at Muawiyah's feet. Muawiyah said: "O Allah, we seek intercession with You through our best and most virtuous." He continued: "O Allah, we seek intercession with You through Yazid ibn al-Aswad al-Jurashi." Then Muawiyah said: "O Yazid, raise your hands to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic." Yazid raised his hands, and the people raised their hands as well. It was not long before a cloud stirred in the west, resembling a shield, which a wind had been given, and it rained upon us until the people could scarcely reach their homes.

- .... from Sulaym ibn Amir al-Khabairi: that the heavens were barren, so Muawiya ibn Abi Sufyan and the people of Damascus went out to seek rain. When Muawiya sat on the minbar, he said: "Where is Yazid ibn al-Aswad al-Jurashi?" The people called out to him, and he came, making his way through the crowd. Muawiya ordered him to climb the minbar, and he sat at his feet. Muawiya then said: "O Allah, we seek intercession with You today through our best and most virtuous." Allah, we seek intercession with You today through Yazid ibn al-Aswad al-Jurashi. O Yazid, raise your hands to Allah. Yazid raised his hands, and the people raised their hands too. Before long, a cloud stirred in the west, resembling a shield, stirred by the wind, and it rained on us until the people could barely reach their homes.
- Abu al-Qasim ibn al-Samarqandi narrated to us: Abu Bakr narrated to us: Abu al-Husayn narrated to us: Abdullah narrated to us: Yaqub narrated to me: Sa'id ibn Asad narrated to us: Dumra, from Ali ibn Abi Hamlata, who said: The people were struck by drought in Damascus, and Duhak ibn Qays al-Fihri was in charge of them. He went out with the people to seek rain and said: "Where is Yazid ibn al-Aswad al-Jurashi?" No one answered him. He repeated, "Where is Yazid ibn al-Aswad al-Jurashi?" and still no one answered. Then he said: "Where is Yazid ibn al-Aswad al-Jurashi? I command you, if you can hear my words, to stand up." He stood up, wearing a cloak, and turned to the people with his face, raising the sides of his cloak on his shoulders, and then lifted his hands. Then he said: "O Lord, Your servants have drawn near to You through me, so provide them with rain." The people returned, walking in water. Then he said: "O Allah, he has made me a witness, so relieve me of him." It was not long before a week passed, and Duhak was killed.
- Abu al-Qasim Zaher ibn Tahir narrated to us: Abu Bakr al-Bayhaqi narrated to us: Abu Abdullah and Muhammad ibn Musa both said: Abu al-Abbas al-Asamm narrated to us: Al-Rabi ibn Sulayman narrated to us: Ayub ibn Suwayd narrated to us: Abu Zur'a said: Duhak ibn Qays went out and sought rain with the people, but it did not rain, and they did not see any clouds. Duhak said: "Where is Yazid ibn al-Aswad?" Someone replied, "Here I am." Duhak said: "Stand up and intercede for us with Allah to grant us rain." He stood up, shrugged his cloak over his shoulders, and bared his arms, saying: "O Allah, these Your servants seek intercession through me to You." He did not pray except three times until it rained, a downpour so heavy they were nearly drowning from it. Then he said: "O Allah, this has made me a witness, so relieve me of it." No week passed after that until he died.
- Abu Muhammad ibn al-Akfani and ibn al-Samarqandi both narrated to us: Al-Hasan ibn Abi Hadid narrated to me: Abu Muhammad ibn Abi Nasr narrated to us: Abu Ali al-Hasan ibn Habib narrated to us: Yazid ibn Abd al-Samad narrated to us: Abu Mashar narrated to us: Sa'id ibn Abd al-Aziz said that Yazid ibn al-Aswad stood and said: "O Allah, Your creation has sent me to You as an envoy, so do not return me disappointed." Then what appeared in the sky was a flurry, and they did not leave until it rained.
