- .... And Mus'ab ibn Abd Allah said: Isma'il ibn Ya'qub al-Taymi narrated to me, saying: Ibn al-Munkadir would sit with his companions, and he would sometimes become silent (in a state of wavelike stillness). He would stand up as he was, until he placed his cheek on the Prophet's (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) grave, then return. He was admonished for this, and he said: "A thought (or overwhelming feeling) comes to me, and when I feel this, I seek solace with the Prophet's (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) grave." He would also go to a spot in the mosque where he would rub himself and lie down, and when asked about this, he would say: "I saw the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in this place."

For I have not sought intercession with him for 30 years without my needs being fulfilled.' So my father prayed, and I said "Amen" to his prayer, and the sky lit up as if it were a moonlit night until we reached him.

- .... And Ahmad ibn al-Fattah said: "I saw Bishr ibn al-Harith in my dream, sitting in a garden with a table before him, and he was eating from it. I said to him: 'O Abu Nasr, what did Allah do with you?' He replied: 'He forgave me and had mercy on me, and granted me permission to enter the entire paradise. He said to me: "Eat from all its fruits and drink from its rivers, and enjoy everything in it, just as you used to deprive yourself of pleasures in the abode of the world."' I asked him: 'Where is your brother Ahmad ibn Hanbal?' He said: 'He is standing at the gate of heaven, interceding for the people of the Sunnah against those who say the Quran is the uncreated Word of Allah.' I then asked him: 'What about Ma'ruf al-Karakhi?' He shrugged his head and said: 'Alas, curtains have fallen between us and him. Ma'ruf did not worship Allah out of longing for His paradise or fear of His hellfire, but rather, he worshiped Him out of longing for Him. So, Allah elevated him to the Highest Companion and removed the veils between him and Allah. That is the tested, sacred antidote. Whoever has a need from Allah should visit his grave and supplicate, for his prayers will be answered, if God Almighty wills."
- And from Abu Bakr al-Zajjaj, who said: "It was said to Ma'ruf al-Karakhi in his illness, 'Give us a will.'" He replied: "When I die, donate this robe of mine, for I would like to leave the world naked, just as I entered it naked." Ma'ruf is reported to have been supported by Bakr ibn Khunis and Abdullah ibn Musa and Ibn al-Sammak, and he died in the year 200 CE. His grave is prominent in Baghdad, and people visit it for blessings. Ibrahim al-Harbi used to say: 'The grave of Ma'ruf is the tested antidote.'"

- .... However, it is not proper for the worshiper to intend that, but rather, he should intend that he is in need of him, peace be upon him and his holy progeny, and that he is seeking intercession through him with his Lord to attain what he desires, for he is the greatest means of conveying blessings to us. This was mentioned earlier in the book, similar to his statement: "Or may Allah bless you."

- .... and al-Dimyiri excluded him alongside the Sacred Kaaba, saying: He should face it at the time of supplication, and he expressed this in verse, saying: "It is Sunnah for the imam to turn after the prayer for a fixed supplication and to have the mihrab on his left except when facing the House in its veils. In his supplication, he should face it, and for the follower, it need not change, even if he is in a mosque in the city. Let him place his mihrab to the right, so he will be in supplication facing the best intercessor and prophet ever sent."

Thaqal said: Abdullah ibn Umar narrated to me, saying: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) recited the end of Surah Az-Zumar while on the pulpit, and the pulpit moved beneath him twice." We read this from Abu Ghalib and Abu Abdullah, the sons of al-Banna, from Abu al-Hasan ibn Makhlad. Abu al-Hasan ibn Khuzafah narrated to me, saying: Muhammad ibn al-Husayn ibn Muhammad narrated to me, from Ibn Abi Khaythamah, from Mus'ab ibn Abdullahi. Ishaq ibn Ya'qub al-Taymi narrated to me, saying: "Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir used to sit with his companions, and sometimes he would fall into a state of silence (samat). He would then stand as he was until he placed his cheek on the grave of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and then return. He was admonished about this and said: 'I sometimes experience a fleeting thought (khawtarah), and when I find that, I seek refuge at the grave of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny).'" He would go to a spot in the mosque during the last part of the night, where he would roll on the ground and lie down. When asked about this, he replied: "I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in this place," and he indicated that he saw him, "in a dream."
