- .... Abu Ali al-Ghassani said: Abu al-Fath Nasr ibn al-Hasan al-Sukhti al-Samarqandi informed us, "He came to us in Valencia in the year 464 AH: Rain was scarce in Samarqand during some years, and the people sought rain repeatedly but were not granted it. Then a righteous man known for his piety came to the judge of Samarqand and said to him, 'I saw a vision that I would like to present to you.' The judge replied, 'What is it?' He said, 'I believe you and the people should go out to the grave of Imam Muhammad ibn Isma'il al-Bukhari, whose burial site is in Khurtank, and seek rain there. Perhaps Allah will grant us rain.' The judge said, 'I see this as a good idea.'"
So the judge went out, and the people went with him. The judge sought rain with the people, and they wept at the grave, interceding through its occupant. Then Allah, the Exalted, sent down the heavens with abundant, heavy rain, causing the people to remain in Khurtank for seven days or so, unable to reach Samarqand due to the intensity and heaviness of the rain.
Between Khurtank and Samarqand is approximately three miles.
