He used to greet me with peace even though Ibn Ziyad ordered me to be flogged, and he withheld his greeting from me until the mark of the flogging disappeared. And he knew that mut'ah isHalal in the Book of Allah, that no prophet prohibited it, and no scripture was revealed concerning it." He said: A man spoke from his own opinion as it seemed good to him.

When Ali saw this, he both performed the pilgrimage and the umrah with them, saying: "Here I am, at your service, with a Hajj and Umrah together." So we proposed this to the women, but they refused, saying that we would not set a time limit between us and them. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Do so." I and a cousin of mine went out together, both of us with a cloak, and I had a cloak, his cloak being better than mine, and I was younger than him. We came across a woman who was impressed by my youth and by his cloak. She said: "A cloak like the one you have," and the time limit between me and her was ten days. I spent that night with her, then I left the next morning, and there was the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) standing between the Corner and the Door, saying: "O people, I had indeed granted you permission to engage in temporary marriages with women, but now Allah has made it forbidden until the Day of Resurrection. So whoever is with one of them, let him free her, and do not take back anything from what you have given them."
