Al-Darimi - Sunan al-Darimi - Book of Marriage - Chapter on the Prohibition of Temporary Marriages (Mut'ah) with Women
Volume: (2) - Page Number: (140)
2195 - Ja'far ibn Aun narrated to us, from Abdul Aziz ibn Umar ibn Abdul Aziz,
from al-Rabi' ibn Sabrah: that his father informed him they traveled with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) during the Farewell Hajj, and he said: "Engage in temporary marriages with these women," and to us, temporary marriage meant marriage. So we proposed this to the women, but they refused, saying that we would not set a time limit between us and them. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Do so." I and a cousin of mine went out together, both of us with a cloak, and I had a cloak, his cloak being better than mine, and I was younger than him. We came across a woman who was impressed by my youth and by his cloak. She said: "A cloak like the one you have," and the time limit between me and her was ten days. I spent that night with her, then I left the next morning, and there was the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) standing between the Corner and the Door, saying: "O people, I had indeed granted you permission to engage in temporary marriages with women, but now Allah has made it forbidden until the Day of Resurrection. So whoever is with one of them, let him free her, and do not take back anything from what you have given them."
