- .... And Hamad said: from Ayyub al-Sakhtiyani, and then Ayyub and Khalid both narrated from Abu Qilabah that Umar ibn al-Khattab said: "There were two forms of enjoyment during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and I am forbidding them and striking those who practice them." This was Ayyub's wording, and in Khalid's narration, it was said: "I am forbidding them and punishing those who practice them: the enjoyment of women and the enjoyment of Hajj."

Ibn Hazm - Al-Muhalla bil-Athar - Book of Marriage - Issue of Mut'a Marriage
Volume: (9) - Page Number: (127/128)
[The text is lengthy, so only the relevant excerpt is provided here]
1858 - Issue: Abu Muhammad said: The Mut'a marriage, which is a marriage for a fixed term, is not permissible. It was permissible during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), but Allah, the Exalted, abrogated it through His Messenger (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) with a definitive abrogation until the Day of Resurrection.
- .... And it has been established that many from the salaf (may Allah be pleased with them) affirmed its permissibility after the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), including some of the companions (may Allah be pleased with them), such as Amina, daughter of Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, Jabir ibn Abdullah, Ibn Mas'ud, Ibn Abbas, Muawiya ibn Abi Sufyan, Amr ibn Huraith, Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, Salmah, and Ma'bad, the sons of Umayya ibn Khalaf. Jabir ibn Abdullah narrated that all the companions observed it during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and during the time of Abu Bakr and Umar, until near the end of Umar's caliphate.
- .... There was disagreement regarding its permissibility: Some reported that Ibn az-Zubayr and Ali were uncertain about it, and that Umar ibn al-Khattab only denied it if there were no two just witnesses to it, but he permitted it with the testimony of two just witnesses.
