3354 - Ya'qoub ibn Sufyan narrated to us, saying: 'Umar ibn Asim narrated to us, saying: Hammam narrated to us, saying: Qatadah from Abi Nadrah. I said to Jabir ibn Abdullah: Ibn Abbas is commanding 'Umrah with Hajj (Mut'ah), while Ibn Zubair is forbidding it. Jabir then said: The discussion ensued in my presence. I enjoyed 'Umrah with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and the Quran was revealed regarding it. When 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) took office, he addressed the people and said: Indeed, the Quran is the Quran, and the Messenger is the Messenger, and they were both forms of 'Mut'ah' during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). He forbade them and imposed penalties for them. One of these was the 'Mut'ah of Hajj, so separate your Hajj from your 'Umrah,' and the other was the 'Mut'ah of women. I cannot bear to see a man who has married for a fixed term without burying him in stones.' Hammam added: So separate your Hajj from your 'Umrah, and he said regarding it: 'It is better for your Hajj and 'Umrah.'
