Dissimulation (Taqaiyyah)

Hadith No: 1

A'isha reported that a person sought permission from Allah's Apostle (s.a.w.a.) to see him. He said:

Grant him permission. (and also added: ) He is a bad son of his tribe or he is a bad person of his tribe. When he came in he used kind words for him. 'A'isha reported that she said: Allah's Messenger, you said about him what you had to say and then you treated him with kindness. He said: A'isha, verily in the eye of Allah, worst amongst the person in rank on the Day of Resurrection is one whom the people abandon or desert out of the fear of indecency.

He also said once, "a man." When the man entered, he said, "Now he has a reason to speak," and when he left, Aisha said, "I told him what I told him, and then you softened your response to him." He replied: "O Aisha, the worst of people in rank with Allah on the Day of Resurrection will be one whom people avoid or leave alone to escape his vile behavior."

Aisha narrated:

"A man sought permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah while I was with him, so he said: 'What an evil son of his tribe, or brother of his tribe.' Then he admitted him and spoke with him. When he left, I said: 'O Messenger of Allah! You said what you said about him. Then you talked politely with him?' He said: 'O 'Aishah! Indeed among the evilest of people are those whom the people avoid, or who the people leave, fearing his filthy speech.'"

`A’isha said :

A man asked permission to see the Prophet (s.a.w.a.), and he said: He is a bad son of the tribe, or: He is a bad member of the tribe. He then said : Give him permission. Then when he entered, he spoke to him leniently. `A’isha asked : Apostle of Allah! You spoke to him leniently while you said about him what you said! He replied: The one who will have the worst position in Allah’s estimation on the Day of Resurrection will be the one whom people left alone for fear of his ribaldry.

- ... Ibn al-Mundhir, Ibn Abi Hatim, and Ibn Marduyah narrated from Ibn Abbas, who said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) intended to migrate to Medina, he said to his companions, "Scatter from me. Whoever is able, let him delay until the last part of the night, and whoever is not able, let him go in the early part of the night. When you hear that the earth has settled for me, join me." So, in the morning, Bilal the muezzin, Khabbab, Ammar, and a girl from Quraysh who had embraced Islam remained. The polytheists, along with Abu Jahl, captured them. They offered Bilal the opportunity to renounce his faith, but he refused. They began to place a shield of iron in the sun and then put it on him. When they had dressed him in it, he would say, "One, One!" Khabbab, on the other hand, they dragged through thorns. As for Ammar, he said to them a word that pleased them, out of precaution. And as for the girl, Abu Jahl drove four stakes into the ground for her, then stretched her out and inserted a spear into her vagina until he killed her. Then they left Bilal, Khabbab, and Ammar, who went to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and informed him of what had happened to them . Ammar felt distressed about what he had said, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to him, "What was your heart like when you said what you said? Was it at ease with what you said or not?" He replied, "No." Then Allah revealed: {Except for one who is forced [to renounce his faith] while his heart is secure in faith (An-Nahl 16:106)}.
- .... Abd al-Razzaq, Ibn Sa'd, Ibn Jarir, Ibn Abi Hatim, al-Hakam, who deemed it authentic, Ibn Marduyah, al-Bayhaqi, and Ibn Asakir narrated through the route of Abu Ubaidah ibn Muhammad ibn Ammar, from his father, who said: The polytheists seized Ammar ibn Yasir and did not release him until he cursed the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and spoke of their gods in a positive way, and then they let him go. When he came to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), he said, "What did you leave behind?" He replied, "The worst of what I left until I insulted you and spoke of their gods favorably." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) asked, "How do you find your heart?" He answered, "At ease in faith." The Prophet said, "If they return, so shall you." Then it was revealed: {Except for one who is forced [to renounce his faith] while his heart is secure in faith (An-Nahl 16:106)}. He said, "That was Ammar ibn Yasir, but whoever is at ease with disbelief in his heart is Abdullah ibn Ubayy Sarh."
- .... Ibn Abi Shaybah, Ibn Jarir, Ibn al-Mundhir, and Ibn Asakir
narrated from Abu Malik regarding His statement: {Except for one who is forced [to renounce his faith] while his heart is secure in faith (An-Nahl 16:106)} that it was revealed concerning Ammar ibn Yasir, and there are reports explicitly stating that it was revealed about Ammar ibn Yasir.
