Swearning by anyone other than Allah

Hadith No: 1

Abu Huraira reported that a person came to the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) and said:

Messenger of Allah, which charity is the greatest in reward? (The Prophet said): By your father, beware, you should give charity (in a state when you are) healthy and close-fisted, haunted by the fear of poverty, and still hoping to live (as rich). And you must not defer charity (to the time) when you are about to die, and would then say:" This is for so and so, and this for so and so." It has already become the possession of so and so.

3409 - Hammad ibn Usamah narrated to us, who said: I heard al-A'mash say: Abbad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas, who said: When Abu Talib fell ill, a group of Quraysh entered upon him, including Abu Jahl. They said, "O Abu Talib, your nephew is insulting our gods, saying this and that, and doing such and such." So send for him and rebuke him." Abu Talib sent for him, and it was near Abu Talib that there was a place for a man, and he feared that if the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered upon his uncle, he might be more lenient towards him. So he jumped up and sat in that gathering. When the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered, he found no place to sit except at the door, so he sat down. Then Abu Talib said, "Nephew, your people are complaining about you. They claim that you are insulting their gods and saying this and that, and doing such and such." He replied, "Uncle, I only want them to agree on a single word that they can use to establish their authority over the Arabs and by which the non-Arabs will pay them the tribute." They said, "What is it? Yes, by your father, ten things!" He replied, "There is no god but Allah." Then they stood up, shaking the dust from their clothes, and saying, { "Does he make the gods into one God? Indeed, this is a remarkable thing!" } (Surah Sad 5:19). Then he continued to recite until he reached: { "They will not taste the punishment..." } (Surah Sad 8:24).

5070 - Isma'il narrated to us, saying: Yahya ibn Abi Ishaq narrated to us, from a man of Banu Ghaffar, in a gathering of Salim ibn Abdullah, who said: So-and-so told me that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was brought food of bread and meat, and he said: "Hand me the foreleg." They handed him a foreleg, and he ate it. Yahya said: "I do not know him to have done anything else." Then he said: "Hand me the foreleg," and they handed him a foreleg, and he ate it. Then he said: "Hand me the foreleg." Salim ibn Abdullah replied: "O Messenger of Allah, there are only two forelegs." He said: "By your father, if you had remained silent, I would have continued to hand you a foreleg from them as long as you did not call for more." Salim then said: "As for this, I heard Abdullah ibn Umar say that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: 'Indeed, Allah, Blessed and Exalted be He, forbids you from swearing by your fathers.'"

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said:

“A man came to the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and said: “O Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.), tell me, which of the people has most right to my good companionship?' He said: 'Yes, by your father, you will certainly be told.' He said: 'Your mother,' He said: 'Then who?' He said: Then your mother.' He said: 'Then who?' He said: Then your mother.' He said: 'Then who?' He said: Then your father.' He said: 'Tell me, O Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) about my wealth- how should I give in charity?' He said: 'Yes, by Allah (SWT) you will certainly be told. You should give in charity when you are still healthy and greedy for wealth, hoping for a long life and fearing poverty. Do not tarry until your soul reaches here and you say: “My wealth of for so-and-so,” and “My wealth of for so-and-so,” and it will be for them even though you dislike that.'”

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abd ar-Rahman ibn al-Qasim from his father that a man from Yemen who had his hand and foot cut off came and went before Abu Bakr as-Siddiq and complained to him that the governor of the Yemen had wronged him, and the man used to pray part of the night. Abu Bakr said, "By your father, your night is not the night of a thief." Then they missed a necklace of Asma bint Umays, the wife of Abu Bakr as-Siddiq. The man came to go around with them looking for it. He said, "O Allah! You are responsible for the one who invaded the people of this good house by night!" They found the jewelry with a goldsmith. He claimed that the maimed man had brought it to him. The maimed man confessed or it was testified against him. Abu Bakr as-Siddiq ordered that his left hand be cut off. Abu Bakr said, "By Allah! His dua against himself is more serious, as far as I am concerned, than his theft."
