The Prophet (s.a.w.a..) curses the Umayyads, Quraysh and Arabs

Hadith No: 1

Narrated Anas:

The people of the tribes of Ril, Dhakwan, 'Usiya and Bani Lihyan came to the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and claimed that they had embraced Islam, and they requested him to support them with some men to fight their own people. The Prophet (s.a.w.a.) supported them with seventy men from the Ansar whom we used to call Al-Qurra'(i.e. Scholars) who (out of piety) used to cut wood during the day and pray all the night. So, those people took the (seventy) men till they reached a place called Bi'r-Ma'ana where they betrayed and martyred them. So, the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) invoked evil on the tribe of Ril, Dhakwan and Bani Lihyan for one month in the prayer.

Narrated Qatada: Anas told us that they (i.e. Muslims) used to recite a Quranic Verse concerning those martyrs which was:-- "O Allah! Let our people be informed on our behalf that we have met our Lord Who has got pleased with us and made us pleased." Then the Verse was cancelled.

- Abu al-Mughira narrated to us, saying: Safwan ibn Amr narrated to us, and Sharikh ibn Ubayd narrated to me from Abd al-Rahman ibn A'idh al-Azdi, from Amr ibn Ubayseh al-Sulami, who said: One day, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was presenting horses, and with him was Uyayna ibn Hujn ibn Badir al-Fazari. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to him, "I am more knowledgeable about horses than you." Uyayna replied, "And I am more knowledgeable about men than you." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to him, "How is that?" He replied, "The best of men are those who carry their swords on their shoulders, wielding their spears on the yokes of their horses, and wearing cloaks from the people of Najd." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "You have lied. Rather, the best of men are the men from Yemen, and faith is Yemeni, extending to Lakhm and Judham. The people of Oman and the eaters of Hamir are better than their eaters, and Hadramawt is better than the Banu al-Harith. There is a tribe better than a tribe and a tribe worse than a tribe, and by Allah, I do not care if both Harithan perish. May Allah curse the four kings: Jamda, Mukhusa, Mashrakh, and Abdhiqah, and their sister, al-Umra." Then he said: "My Lord, Mighty and Majestic be He, commanded me to curse Quraysh twice, so I cursed them," and "He commanded me to pray for them, so I prayed for them twice. Then he said, 'A disobedient group has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger, except for Qays, J'adah, and Ubaydah.'" Then he said, "Laim and Ghifar, Makhzum, and their mixes from Juhaynah are better than the Banu Asad, Tamim, and Ghatafan, and Hawazin in the sight of Allah, Mighty and Majestic be He, on the Day of Judgment." He then said, "The two worst tribes in Arabia are Najran and the Banu Taghlib, and the largest tribes in Paradise are Madh'hij and Ma'kul." Abu al-Mughira said: Safwan said, "Hamir and Hamir are better than their eaters." He said, "Those who have passed are better than those who remain."

7062 - Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abd al-Hakam narrated to us, saying: Ibn Wahb narrated to me, saying: Mu'awiya ibn Salih narrated to me from Abd al-Rahman ibn A'idh al-Azdi, from Amr ibn Ubaysa al-Sulami (may peace be upon him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was showing horses while 'Ayina ibn Badir al-Fazari was with him. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "I know more about horses than you do." 'Ayina replied: "And I know more about men than you do." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Who are the best of men?" He said: "Men who carry their swords on their shoulders and their spears on the saddles of their horses, from the men of Najd." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "You lie; rather, the best men are from Yemen, and faith is Yemeni, to Lakham and Judham. The Ma'kul of Himyar is better than the Ma'kul of all of them, and Hadhramaut is better than the sons of al-Harith. By Allah, I would not care if both Harith tribes were to perish. May Allah curse the four kings: Jandam, Makhus, Abhdh'a, and their sister al-'Umra." Then he said: "My Lord commanded me to curse Quraysh twice, so I cursed them," and "He commanded me to pray for them, so I prayed for them twice." Then he said: "May Allah curse Tamim ibn Murrah five times and Bakr ibn Wa'il seven times, and may Allah curse two tribes from the tribes of Banu Tamim: Maq'asis and Maladis." Then he said: "A rebellious one who disobeyed Allah and His Messenger: Abd Qays, and Jaddah, and 'Ismah." Then he said: "Aslam, Ghifar, Muzayna, and their allies from Juhaynah are better than Banu Asad, Tamim, and Ghatafan at the Day of Resurrection." Then he said: "The worst two tribes in Arabia are Najran and the sons of Taghlib, and the greatest tribes in Paradise are Madhhij." This is a narration with a strange content but a sound chain of transmission, and neither of them recorded it.

- .... And among those who opposed him, rejected him, lied about him, and fought him from his own tribe was the majority and the vast multitude. They received him with disbelief and reproach, sought to harm and intimidate him, exchanged enmity with him, set themselves against him in combat, and turned away from anyone who approached him. They inflicted suffering on those who followed him, the most opposed to him in this were those who had the greatest enmity towards him, the first to challenge him in every battle and confrontation. No banner would be raised against Islam except that its owner, leader, and chief in every instance of war was Abu Sufyan ibn Harb and his followers from the Umayyads, cursed in the Book of Allah and then cursed on the tongue of the Messenger of Allah in several instances, as part of Allah's prior knowledge of them and His decree concerning their hypocrisy and the disbelief of their minds. Thus, he fought, struggling and defending, and remained in opposition until he was overcome by the sword and the decree of Allah was established, while they were unwilling. He was killed in Islam, not fully embracing it, and his heart remained in unbelief, not forsaking it. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and the Muslims recognized him by this, and those whose hearts were to be reconciled were distinguished for him. He accepted them, and his descendants did so with knowledge of what they were doing. Among the things with which Allah cursed them on the tongue of His Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and through which He revealed a Book was His saying: {And the cursed tree in the Quran, and We will frighten them, but it will only increase them in excessive transgression} (Surah al-Isra 17:60). There is no disagreement among anyone that he intended the Umayyads by this.... And from him is the statement of the Messenger (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) having seen him approaching on a donkey, with Muawiyah leading it and his son Yazid driving it: "May Allah curse the leader, the rider, and the driver." And there are narrations from him that say: "O Banu Abd Manaf, catch it as it is thrown, for there is neither heaven nor hell there, and this is clear disbelief that will bring down the curse of Allah upon him...."

O Allah, curse the leaders of disbelief, the captains of misguidance, the enemies of religion, the fighters against the Messenger, the changers of divine rulings, the manipulators of the Scripture, and the spilers of sacred blood.
