19281 - Abdullah ibn Muhammad narrated to us, and I heard it myself from Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Shaybah, who said: Muhammad ibn Fadl narrated to us, from Yazid ibn Abi Ziyad, from Sulayman ibn Amr ibn al-Ahwasi, who said: The Lord of this house, Abu Hilal, told me, saying: Did you hear Abu Barzah? He said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) during a journey, and he heard two men singing, one responding to the other, saying:
"My disciples will not cease, their bones barely visible,
The burdens of war withdrawn from him, lest he go mad and be buried."
Then the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: Look to see who they are. They replied: So-and-so and so-and-so. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) then said: O Allah, reverse them into immaturity and leave them to the fire."

13311 - Abu Barzah narrated that he said: We were with the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) on a journey when he heard two men singing, one responding to the other, and he was saying:
His martyrs still appear, their bones visible,
The war was narrated from him that he would mourn and be buried.
The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Look who they are." They replied, "Such-and-such and such-and-such." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) then said: "O Allah, make them undergo a severe plunge and leave them to the fire." Ahmad and al-Bazzar narrated this, and it was said that he looked at two men on the day of Uhud mimicking this poetry in a courtyard, and Abu Ya'la narrated something similar, which included Yazid bin Abi Ziyad, and most hold a weak view of him.

The remnants of my companions still appear, * Their bones showing that the tumult of war could not keep them from us.
He then said: O Allah, plunge them into the Fire in the trial, a plunge, and leave them to the Fire of Hell. He narrated it, and Al-Tabarani reported it in al-Awsat, mentioning that it included a group of people I did not recognize.

- .... al-Aṣamm: narrated to us from my father, who said: I heard Ibn Rahwayh say: "Nothing authentic can be reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) regarding the virtue of Muawiyah." Ibn Fadhil narrated to us, from Yazid ibn Abi Ziyad, from Sulayman ibn Amr ibn al-Ahwas from Abu Barzah: "We were with the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) when he heard the sound of singing. He said: 'Look and see what this is.' So I went up and looked, and behold, it was Muawiyah and Amr ibn al-As singing. I came back and informed him. He said: 'O Allah, let them both be plunged in confusion during the trial and leave them in the Fire.'" This is something that is denounced regarding Yazid.

- .... The third narration condemning him and condemning Umar ibn al-Aas: Abu Mansur ibn Khayrun narrated to us, saying: al-Jawhari narrated to us from al-Daraqutni from Abu Hatim al-Busti who said: My father narrated to us, saying: Ali ibn al-Munzir narrated to us, saying: Ibn Fudayl narrated to us, saying: Yazid ibn Abi Ziyad narrated to him from Sulayman ibn Amr ibn al-Ahwas from Abu Barzah, who said: We were with the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) when we heard the sound of singing. He said: "Look to see what this is." So I climbed up and saw that it was Muawiya and Amr ibn al-Aas singing. I came back and informed the Prophet of God (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). He then said: "O Allah, plunge them into confusion in the trial, and leave them to the Fire, calling." This is a hadith that is not authentic, and Yazid ibn Abi Ziyad was being prompted in the last part of his life and would be prompted. Ali and Yahya said that his narrations are not to be relied upon, and Ibn Mubarak said: "Throw him aside," and Ibn Adi stated that none of his narrations are corroborated.

- .... And in al-Wajiz: "We were with the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) on a journey when he heard two men singing. He said, 'O Allah, cause them to be plunged into the fitna or leave them to the Fire.'" It contains Yazid ibn Abi Ziad, who was being instructed and would learn. I said this does not imply fabrication, and Ahmad has narrated it, and there is a corroborating witness from Ibn Abbas.
