7264 - "May Allah curse those who distort sermons": with a damm (ʿu) on the letter 'l' and then a fatḥ (a), plural of khutbah (sermon) with a damm (ʿu) and then a sukūn (˙) on the letters, referring to the known admonitions (distorting hair) with a kasr (i) on the letter 'sh' and a sukūn (˙) on the letter 'ʿ', meaning they twist their tongues with the words of the sermon to the right and left, and affect to speak in measured and balanced terms, in a manner that would show off their eloquence and assert superiority over others, in pride and arrogance. It is said: to distort (tashqqaq) in speech and contention if one begins to move to the right and left, leaving the point, and adopting a forced and artificial manner, to present the speech in the best possible way. Al-Haythami said: "In this narration, there is Jabir al-Ja'fi, and he is weak."
