1935 - Sufyan narrated to us, from Sulayman ibn Abi Muslim, the maternal uncle of Ibn Abi Najih, who heard Sa'id ibn Jubair say: Ibn Abbas said on Thursday, "And what is Thursday?" Then he wept until his tears moistening his cheeks, and he said, at another time, "His tears were like pebbles." We said, "O Abu al-Abbas, what is Thursday?" He replied: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was feeling his pain more severely and said, 'Bring me something to write for you, a document from which you will never go astray after me.'" But they argued, and it is not right for there to be any argument in the presence of a Prophet.
They said, 'What is the matter with him? Is he babbling?' Sufyan meant he was speaking unintelligibly. They sought to understand him, so they went to reiterate to him. He said, "Leave me, for what I am in is better than what you are calling me to," and he ordered three things, and Sufyan said at another time that he advised three things. He said, "Expel the polytheists from the Arabian Peninsula, and grant allowance to the delegations in a manner similar to how I used to grant them allowances." Sa'id remained silent about the third, so I do not know if he remained silent about it intentionally or if he simply forgot, and Sufyan said at another time it was either that he left it out or forgot it.
