7108 - From Jabir: That the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called for a scroll at the time of his death to write in it a book so that they would not go astray after him nor be led astray. And there was a commotion in the house, and Umar ibn al-Khattab spoke, so the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) rejected it. Abu Ya'la narrated this, and in another narration, it is mentioned that he wanted to write a book for his community, saying: "They will not be wronged nor will they wrong (others)." The men in both narrations are trustworthy.

7109 - Ibn Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called for a shoulder bone and said, "Bring me a shoulder bone so I can write you a document that you will never disagree on after me." Then those with him began to speak among themselves in confusion, and a woman from those present said: "Woe to you! The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) is making a covenant with you!" Some of the people replied, "Be silent, for you have no understanding." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "You have no minds." I said: There is a part of this in the sahih (authentic narrations) from the beginning. It was narrated by al-Tabarani, and in it is Layth ibn Abi Sulaym, who is known to have used ambiguous narrations, but the rest of his men are trustworthy.

14257 - Umar ibn al-Khattab said: When the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) fell ill, he said: "Bring me a piece of paper and an inkwell, so I can write you a document, after which you will never go astray." We greatly disliked this. Then he said: "Bring me a piece of paper, and I will write you a document that you will never go astray after." The women behind the curtain said: "Are they not hearing what the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) is saying?" I replied: "You are like the companions of Joseph. When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) is ill, you shed tears, and when he is well, you climb onto his neck." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Leave them, for they are better than you." Al-Tabarani narrated it in al-Awsat, and there is in it Muhammad ibn Ja'far ibn Ibrahim al-Ja'fari. al-'Uqayli said: "There is a concern regarding his narrations, but the rest of the narrators are trustworthy, although there is some difference about a few of them."
