Volume: (1) - Page Number: (38)
24 - Abu Ali Isma'il narrated to us, saying: Ahmad narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Razzaq narrated to me, from Ibn Uyaynah, from Sulayman al-Ahwal, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, who said: Ibn Abbas said, "Thursday, and what will make you understand what Thursday is!" Then he wept until his tears stained the pebbles. I said, "Ibn Abbas, what is Thursday?" He replied, "When the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was on the verge of death, he said, 'Bring me something to write to you a document, so you will not go astray after me.'" He continued, "But they began to dispute, and it is not appropriate to dispute in the presence of a Prophet of God." They said, "What is wrong with him? Is he delusional? Ask him for clarification." He said, "Leave me, for what I am in is better than what you are calling me to." Then he entrusted three things at his death. He said, "Expel the polytheists from the Arabian Peninsula, and continue to accept delegations as I used to accept them." Sa'id said, "Either he (Sa'id) was silent about the third, or he may have forgotten it."

9757 - Abd al-Razzaq from Ma'mar from al-Zuhri from Ubaydullah ibn Abdullah ibn Utbah from Ibn Abbas, who said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was in his final moments and there were men in the house, including Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Shall I write you a document so that you will not go astray after it?" Umar said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) is overwhelmed by pain, and you have the Quran; the Book of Allah is sufficient for us." So the people of the house disagreed and argued, with some saying: "Bring them closer; the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) will write you a document so that you will not go astray after it," and others saying what Umar had said. When they continued to chatter and differ in front of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), he said: "Leave." Abdullah said that Ibn Abbas would then say: "The true calamity, all the calamity, was what prevented the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) from writing that document for them: their disagreement and noise."

9992 - Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, saying: Ibn Uyainah narrated to us, from Sulayman al-Ahwal, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, who said: Ibn Abbas said to me: "Thursday, and what is Thursday?" Then he wept until his tears stained the pebbles. I said: "O Abu Abbas, what is Thursday?" He said: "A day when the pain grew severe for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)." He said: "Bring me so I may write for you a document that you will never go astray after." He said: But they began to dispute, and it is not appropriate to dispute in the presence of a Prophet. They said: What is wrong with him? Is he delusional? Ask him for clarification. He replied: "Leave me, for what I am in is better than what you are calling me to." He said he instructed three things at his death and said: "Expel the polytheists from the Arabian Peninsula, and continue to honor the delegations as I used to honor them." He said that either Sa'id deliberately remained silent about the third, or he mentioned it and forgot.

19371 - Ibn Uyaynah narrated to us from Sulayman al-Ahwal, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, who said: Ibn Abbas said: "Thursday, and what is Thursday?" Then he wept until his tears stained the pebbles. I said, "O Abu Abbas, what is Thursday?" He said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was feeling his pain more severely and said: 'Bring me something to write you a book, so you will not go astray after me.'" He continued, and they were arguing, which should not happen in the presence of a prophet. They said: "What is wrong with him? Ask him, is he speaking nonsense?" He replied: "Leave me, for what I am in is better than what you are calling me to." He said that he advised, at his death, three things and said: "Expel the polytheists from the Arabian Peninsula and continue to honor the delegations as I used to honor them." Sa'id either did not mention the third or mentioned it, and I forgot it.
