24 - Abu Ali Isma'il narrated to us, saying: Ahmad narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Razzaq narrated to me, from Ibn Uyaynah, from Sulayman al-Ahwal, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, who said: Ibn Abbas said, "Thursday, and what will make you understand what Thursday is!" Then he wept until his tears stained the pebbles. I said, "Ibn Abbas, what is Thursday?" He replied, "When the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was on the verge of death, he said, 'Bring me something to write to you a document, so you will not go astray after me.'"
He continued, "But they began to dispute, and it is not appropriate to dispute in the presence of a Prophet of God." They said, "What is wrong with him? Is he delusional? Ask him for clarification." He said, "Leave me, for what I am in is better than what you are calling me to." Then he entrusted three things at his death. He said, "Expel the polytheists from the Arabian Peninsula, and continue to accept delegations as I used to accept them." Sa'id said, "Either he (Sa'id) was silent about the third, or he may have forgotten it."
