As for Umar, it was unclear to him whether the Prophet's (sa) statement was due to the severity of his illness or one of his known statements, and illness is permissible for the prophets. This is why he said: "What is wrong with him? Is he delusional?" He was uncertain about it and did not firmly conclude that he was delusional, and uncertainty is permissible for Umar since none is infallible except the Prophet (sa), especially as he was perplexed by a reasonable doubt. The Prophet (sa) was ill, so he did not know whether his words were from the intensity of the illness, as can happen to the sick, or from his known statements that must be accepted. Similarly, he believed that he had not died until it became clear that he indeed had died, while the Prophet (sa) had intended to write the document that ....
