- Abu Bakr al-Liftawani narrated to us, saying: Abu Amr al-Isbahani narrated to us, saying: Abu Muhammad al-Madiniti narrated to us, mentioning that Abu al-Hasan al-Kattani narrated to us, saying: Abu Bakr al-Qurashi narrated to me, from Harun Abu Bishr al-Kufi, who said: Abu Bakr ibn Ayash
narrated to me from Abu Ishaq, who said: Shimar ibn Dhi al-Jawshan al-Dhubabi used to pray with us the Fajr (dawn) prayer, then sit until sunrise, and then pray again. He would then say: "O Allah, You are Honorable and love honor, and You know that I am honorable, so forgive me." I said, "Woe to you! What will you do if our commanders command us to do something and we do not obey them? If we were to disobey them, we would be worse than those red donkeys, the water carriers."
- Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Abd al-Baqi narrated to us, saying: Al-Hasan ibn Ali narrated to us, saying: Abu Umar ibn Hayawiya narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Ma'ruf narrated to us, from al-Husayn ibn al-Fahm, from Muhammad ibn Sa'd, who said: Munthir ibn Isma'il
narrated to me that al-Haytham ibn al-Khattab al-Hudi said he heard Abu Ishaq al-Sabi'i say: Shimar ibn Dhi al-Jawshan al-Dhubabi would often not be present at the beginning of the prayer, but would come after the prayer and pray. He would then say: "O Allah, forgive me, for I am noble, and the lowly did not give birth to me." I said to him, "You have a poor opinion to hasten to kill the son of the granddaughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)." He replied: "Leave us alone, O Abu Ishaq! If we were as you say, and your companions, we would be worse than the red ones, the water carriers."
