Abdullah said:

"I was prayed and the Prophet, Abu Bakr, and Umar were there, so when I sat, I started off with praising Allah, then sending Salat upon the Prophet, then supplicating for myself. So the Prophet said: 'Ask, your request will be granted, ask, your request will be ranted.'"

872 - Abu al-Fadl al-Husayn ibn Yaqub al-Adl narrated to us, saying: Al-Suri ibn Khuzaymah narrated to us, saying: Abdullah ibn Yazid al-Muqri narrated to us, saying: Hayat narrated to us from Abu Hani, from Abu Ali al-Janbi, from Fadalah ibn Ubayd al-Ansari, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) saw a man praying who had neither praised Allah nor extolled Him, nor sent blessings upon the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and then turned away. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "This one is hasty," and he called him and said to him and others: "When one of you prays, let him begin by praising his Lord and extolling Him, and let him send blessings upon the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), then he may supplicate for whatever he wishes." This is a sound hadith according to the criteria of Muslim, although they did not include it in their works.

- .... And among the things that support this is the other hadith narrated by Imam Ahmad, Abu Dawood, and al-Tirmidhi, who deemed it authentic, as well as al-Nasa'i, Ibn Khuzaymah, and Ibn Hibban in their sahih works, from the narration of Haywah ibn Shurayh al-Masri, from Abu Hani' Humayd ibn Hani', from Amr ibn Malik Abu Ali al- janbi, from Fudalah ibn Ubayd (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) heard a man supplicating in his prayer who had not extolled Allah nor sent blessings upon the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "This one is hurried." - .... And Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Prayer and supplication are suspended between heaven and earth, and nothing will ascend to Allah from them until one prays on the Prophet (peace be upon him) .... And Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: and on the Family of Muhammad, and it was narrated that supplication is veiled until the supplicant prays on the Prophet (peace be upon him).
- And Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If one of you wishes to ask Allah for something, let him begin by praising Him and glorifying Him with what is appropriate, then let him pray on the Prophet (peace be upon him), and then ask, for this is more likely to be successful.
- And Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Do not make me like the cup of a traveler, for the traveler fills his cup then puts it down and lifts his belongings. If he needs a drink, he will drink it, or if he needs to perform ablution, he will do so; otherwise, he will pour it out. But place me at the beginning, middle, and end of your supplications."
- Ibn Ata' said: Supplication has pillars, wings, reasons, and times. If it coincides with its pillars, it is strong; if it aligns with its wings, it will soar in the sky; if it matches its times, it will succeed; and if it corresponds with its reasons, it will be fulfilled. Its pillars are presence of heart, tenderness, humility, and attentiveness, and detachment of the heart from worldly matters. Its wings are sincerity, and its times are the last third of the night. Its reasons include prayer upon Muhammad (peace be upon him).
- And in another narration: Every supplication is veiled below the heavens, but when prayer is offered upon me, the supplication ascends.
- In the supplication of Ibn Abbas, which he narrated from Hunch, he said at the end: And answer my supplication, then begin with prayer upon the Prophet (peace be upon him) and say: O Allah, I ask You to send blessings upon Muhammad, Your servant, Your Prophet, and Your Messenger, the best upon whom You have ever sent blessings from among Your creation, ameen.
- Abu Ishaq ibn Shu'ban said: It is appropriate for anyone who enters the mosque to pray upon the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his Family, to invoke mercy upon him and his Family, to ask for blessings upon him and his Family, to offer peace to him and his Family, and to say: O Allah, forgive me my sins and open for me the doors of Your mercy.

- .... And Ali, may Allah honor his face, said: "Every supplication is veiled until one prays upon Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)." Al-Tabarani narrated this in al-Awsat as a marfu' (raised) report, and its narrators are trustworthy. Some of the narrators elevated it to a saying of the Prophet, but the mursal (non-elevated) is more correct. And al-Tirmidhi narrated it from Abi Qura al-Asadi, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib from Umar ibn al-Khattab, as a marfu' report, stating: "Indeed, supplication is suspended between heaven and earth, and nothing ascends from it until one prays upon your Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)."
