- Waki' ibn al-Jarrah ibn Muliih ibn Uday ibn Fars ibn Jamjamat ibn Sufyan ibn al-Harith ibn Amr ibn Ubayd ibn Ru'as, the imam, hafiz, and transmitter of hadith in Iraq, Abu Sufyan al-Ru'asi al-Kufi, was one of the prominent figures.
- .... May Allah be pleased with Waki' and where is there one like Waki'?
Despite this, he was accustomed to drinking the nabidh of Kufa, which could intoxicate if consumed in large amounts, and he acted with a rationale in his consumption of it. However, it would have been more appropriate for him to leave it out of caution, for whoever refrains from doubtful matters has cleared himself in regard to his faith and honor. The prohibition and prohibition of the aforementioned nabidh has been established, and this is not the place for such matters. Everyone's statements can be accepted or rejected, so there is no example to be followed in a scholar's mistake.
