- .... And in the hadith: Which of you should go out to Bathān in al-‘Aqīq? Ibn al-Atheer said: It is a valley among the valleys of the city of Medina, a watercourse, and it is the one mentioned in the hadith: that it is a blessed valley.

Narrated `Aisha:

Allah's Messenger (s.a.w.a.) used to read in his Ruqya, "In the Name of Allah" The earth of our land and the saliva of some of us cure our patient with the permission of our Lord." with a slight shower of saliva) while treating with a Ruqya.

- His statement: "(the soil of our land)" is the predicate of an omitted subject, meaning "this is the soil."
- Al-Nawawi said: The meaning of the hadith is that he took from his own saliva on his fingertip, the index finger, and then placed it on the soil, so something from it adhered to it. He then wiped it over the ailing or wounded area, saying the mentioned words during the wiping.
- He continued: And the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) placing his index finger on the ground and then on it indicates that this is recommended during ruqyah.
- Then he said: Some of our scholars believed that the secret in this is that the soil of the earth, due to its coolness and dryness, can heal the area in pain and prevent any fluids from accumulating there, due to its dryness, while also being beneficial in drying and healing wounds.
- He said.... Al-Qurtubi refuted him, stating that this can only be effective if the treatment is carried out according to its principles, taking into account the amount of soil and saliva and maintaining this at the proper times; otherwise, the blowing and placing the index finger on the ground only pertains to matters unrelated to it, having no effect or significance. This is merely a form of seeking blessings through the names of Allah, the Exalted, and the traces of His Messenger.
- Al-Baydawi said: Medical discussions have indicated that saliva plays a role in maturation and balancing the temperament. The soil of one's homeland also has an effect in preserving the temperament and warding off harm. They have mentioned that it is advisable for a traveler to carry soil from their land if they are unable to bring water from it, so that when arriving at different waters, they can place some of it in their container to avoid potential harm from this.
- Al-Nawawi said: It is said that "our land" refers specifically to the land of Medina due to its blessedness, and "some of us" refers to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) because of the honor of his saliva, suggesting that this is specific. However, this is questionable.

Yusuf ibn Muhammad ibn Thabit ibn Qays ibn Shammاس al-Ansari
Volume: (8) - Page Number: (377)
3387 - Yusuf ibn Muhammad ibn Thabit ibn Qays ibn Shammاس al-Ansari from his father, from his grandfather, who said that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "O Lord of the worlds, remove the burden from Thabit ibn Qays ibn Shammاس," then he took some dust from Bathan, placed it in a cup, poured water on it, and washed him with it. Yahya ibn Salih said: Dawud ibn Abdul Rahman listened to Amr ibn Yahya al-Ansari narrating from Yusuf. Amr ibn Ali said: Abu Asim narrated to us. Ibn Jurayj said: Ziyad showed us, saying: Amr informed me that Yusuf ibn Muhammad ibn Thabit ibn Qays told him that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) came to Thabit while he was ill, in a similar condition, and immersed him in water, then gave him to drink. Musa ibn Ismail said: Wehip narrated to us, saying: Amr ibn Yahya narrated to us from a certain person regarding Muhammad ibn Thabit ibn Qays ibn Shammاس: that Thabit ibn Qays fell ill, and the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) came to him... in a similar manner, then either gave him to drink or washed him.

'A'isha reported that when any person fell ill with a disease or he had any ailment or he had any injury, the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) placed his forefinger upon the ground and then lifted it by reciting the name of Allah. (and said):

The dust of our ground with the saliva of any one of us would serve as a means whereby our illness would be cured with the sanction of Allah. This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Ibn Abu Shaiba and Zubair with a slight variation of wording.

8266 - Abu Bakr ibn Ishaq al-Faqih and Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Hamshaz al-Adl said: Sheikh Abu Bakr ibn Ishaq al-Faqih and Sheikh Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Hamshaz al-Adl both said: Bishr ibn Musa al-Asdi narrated to us, who said: al-Humaydi narrated to us, who said: Sufyan narrated to us, who said: Abd Rabbih ibn Sa'id narrated to us, from Umrah bint Abdul Rahman from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) saw a person complaining of something or with an ulcer or a wound, he would gesture with his finger like this, placing his index finger on the ground and then lifting it, saying: "In the name of Allah, the soil of our earth and the saliva of some of us can cure our infirm one with the permission of our Lord." This is a sound hadith according to the criteria of the two sheikhs, and they did not include it in their collections.

- And the meaning of the hadith is that he takes some saliva from his own mouth on his index finger and then places it on the soil, so something sticks to it, and he wipes it on the wound while saying this words for the blessing it contains: of invoking (mentioning) the Name of God, entrusting the matter to Him, and relying on Him. Thus, one treatment joins with another, strengthening the effect.
- And is the intention of his statement, "the dust of our earth," all earth or specifically the earth of Medina? There are two opinions on this, and there is no doubt that some soils may have properties that benefit with their uniqueness from many ailments and cure serious illnesses.
- Galen said: "I saw many in Alexandria who were either undergoing cupping or had dropsy, extensively using the clay of Egypt, applying it to their faces, thighs, forearms, backs, and ribs, and they benefited from it in a noticeable way." He added: "And in this manner, such applications may also occur for festering tumors and loose, flabby swellings." He continued: "I know of a people whose bodies had all become flabby from excessive bloodletting, who benefited significantly from this clay, as well as others who were cured of chronic pains that had firmly settled in some parts of the body, becoming strong, and they healed completely and disappeared." And the author of the Christian book said: "The potency of the clay brought from Kynus - which is the island of mastic - has the power to cleanse, wash, and promote the growth of flesh in wounds, and it seals wounds." And if this is the case with these soils, what then is the opinion of the purest soil on the face of the earth, the most blessed, mixed with the saliva of the Messenger of God (saw) and accompanying his ruqyah with the Name of his Lord and the entrusting of the matter to Him?....

Narrated Thabit ibn Qays ibn Shammas:

The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) entered upon Thabit ibn Qays. The version of Ahmad (ibn Salih) has: When he was ill He (the Prophet) said: Remove the harm, O Lord of men, from Thabit ibn Qays ibn Shammas. He then took some dust of Bathan, and put it in a bowel, and then mixed it with water and blew in it, and poured it on him.

Abu Dawud said: Ibn al-Sarh said: Yusuf bin Muhammad is correct (and not Muhammad bin Yusuf)
