- From Ali, Jabir, Salman, Abu Huraira, Anas, Ibn Abbas, al-Barra, and Aisha (may Allah be pleased with them). As for the hadith of Ali and Jabir, Isma'il ibn Ahmad narrated to us, saying: Isma'il ibn Mus'adah narrated to us, saying: Hamza ibn Yusuf narrated to us, saying: Abu Ahmad ibn Adi narrated to us, saying: Ja'far ibn Ahmad ibn Ali ibn Bayan narrated to us, saying: Yusuf ibn Ya'aqub ibn Salim narrated to us, saying: Hisham ibn al-Hakam narrated to us, and Ja'far said: My uncle al-Hasan ibn Bayan narrated to me, saying: Hisham ibn Salim narrated to us, both said that Ja'far ibn Muhammad narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me, from his father, from his father, al-Husayn

from Ibn Abbas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Your Lord, the Almighty, has sworn that He will punish the one who eats clay with a punishment like that of the one who drinks alcohol."- And as for the hadith of al-Barra, Muhammad ibn Ukkasha narrated from al-Nadr ibn Sahl, from Isra'il, from Abu al-Makharq
from al-Barra ibn Azib, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Indeed, Allah will punish the servant for eating clay because of what it alters in his body."- As for the hadith of Aisha, Muhammad ibn Nasir narrated to us, saying: al-Mubarak ibn Abd al-Jabbar narrated to us, saying: al-Hasan ibn Ali al-Jawhari narrated to us, saying: Abu Umar ibn Hayyuwiyeh narrated to us, saying: Abu Abdullah ibn Makhlad narrated to us, saying: Hamdun ibn Ibad al-Farghani narrated to us, saying: Yahya ibn Hashim narrated to us, saying: Hisham ibn Urwah narrated to us, from his father
from Aisha, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "O Humayra, do not eat clay, for it enlarges the stomach, yellows the complexion, and removes the radiance of the face." These hadiths contain nothing authentic.
- As for the hadith of Ali and Jabir, they are both from the fabrications of Ja'far ibn Ahmad ibn Bayan. Ibn Adi said he used to fabricate hadith.
- As for the hadith of Salman, al-Daraqutni said: Yahya ibn Yazid al-Ahvazi is the only one who narrated it. The author commented: I say, this man is somewhat unknown.
- As for the hadith of Abu Huraira, in the first chain, Abd al-Malik ibn Mehran is mentioned, and in the second, Sahl ibn Abd Allah. Abu Hatim al-Razi said: They are both unknown, and the hadith is false.
- As for the hadith of Anas, in the first chain, Ali ibn Asim is mentioned. Yazid ibn Harun said: We have always known him to be a liar. Yahya said: He is nothing. In the second chain, Khalid ibn Ghassan is mentioned. Ibn Adi said: He narrated two false hadiths from his father, and both hadiths regarding eating clay being forbidden for every Muslim. His father is known and is acceptable.
- As for the hadith of Ibn Abbas, Asim ibn Zamzam and Muqatil ibn Abi al-Fadl are unknown. Salih ibn Muhammad, however, Ibn Hibban said: It is not permissible to write his hadith. Muhammad ibn Ukkasha, according to al-Daraqutni, would fabricate hadith.
- As for the hadith of Aisha, it includes Yahya ibn Hashim. Ahmad said: It is not permissible to narrate from him. Yahya said: He is a charlatan of this ummah. Ibn Adi said: He would fabricate hadith. Al-‘Uqayli said: This hadith has no foundation and is not preserved from any reliable source. Ahmad ibn Hanbal said: I do not know of anything authentic regarding clay, and at another time, he said: There is nothing in it that is established, except that it is harmful to the body.
