15112 - From Naji al-Hadhrami: that he traveled with Ali (peace be upon him) who was the keeper of his purification. When he passed by Nineveh while on his way to Siffin, Ali called out: "Be patient, Abu Abdullah, be patient, Abu Abdullah, at the bank of the Euphrates." I said: "What is this about?" He replied: "I entered upon the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) one day, and behold, his eyes were shedding tears. I said: 'O Prophet of Allah, has someone made you angry? What is the matter with your eyes, that they are overflowing?'"
He said: "No, rather Gabriel (peace be upon him) stood up from beside me before and informed me that Hussein will be killed at the bank of the Euphrates." He then said: "Would you like me to let you smell his soil?" I replied: "Yes." He extended his hand, cupped a handful of soil, and gave it to me. I could not help but have my eyes overflow as well." Ahmad, Abu Ya'li, al-Bazzar, and al-Tabarani narrated this, and their narrators are trustworthy. Naji was not the only one to mention this.
