6316 - Narrated to us by al-Sa'igh, who said: Ahmad ibn Umar al-Altaf narrated to us, Abu Sa'id, the freedman of Banu Hashim, narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Ayyub, from Umara ibn Ghaziyyah, from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim, from Abu Salamah, from Aisha: that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) seated Husayn on his thigh, and Gabriel (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) came to him and said: "This is your son." He replied, "Yes." Gabriel said, "Your ummah will kill him after you," and tears filled the eyes of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). He said, "If you wish, I can show you the soil of the earth where he will be killed." The Prophet replied, "Yes," and Gabriel brought him soil from the soil of Karbala." None narrated this hadith from Ayyub except Hammad al-Dinari.

2811 - Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Hadhrami narrated to us, who said: Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, who said: Muhammad ibn Ubayd narrated to me, from Sharhabil ibn Mudrik al-Ju'fi, from Abdullah ibn Najji, from his father, that he traveled with Ali (ra), and when they were opposite Nineveh, he said: "Be patient, Abu Abdullah, be patient by the bank of the Euphrates." I said, "What is that?" He replied: "I entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) one day, and his eyes were overflowing with tears. I said, 'Has someone made you angry, O Messenger of Allah?'" Malik, I see your eyes overflowing." He said: "Gabriel (peace be upon him) stood up from beside me and informed me that my ummah will kill Al-Husayn, and then he said: 'Would you like me to show you some of his soil?' I said, 'Yes,' so he stretched out his hand and took a handful. When I saw it, I could not help my eyes from overflowing with tears."

2813 - Bishr ibn Musa narrated to us, saying: Abdul-Samad ibn Hasan al-Marwazi narrated to us, and Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Hadrami, Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Tammar al-Basri, and Abdan ibn Ahmad also narrated to us, saying: Shayban ibn Furukh narrated to us, and they said: Imarah ibn Zadhan al-Saydalani narrated to us, saying: Thabit al-Bunani narrated to us from Anas ibn Malik, who said: The angel of the rain sought permission from his Lord, Mighty is He and Majestic, to visit the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and He granted him permission. So he came to him while he was in the house of Umm Salamah and said: O Umm Salamah, keep the door closed for us; let no one enter. While they were at the door, Al-Husayn came, and he opened the door, beginning to jump on the back of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was embracing him and kissing him. The angel then said to him: Do you love him, O Muhammad? He said: Yes. The angel replied: Indeed, your Ummah will kill him, and if you wish, I can show you the soil of the place where he will be killed. Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: So he took a handful of the soil from the place where he would be killed and brought it to him, presenting it as a soft red clay. Umm Salamah took it and placed it in her garment. Thabit said: We used to say it was Karbala.

2814 - Ahmad ibn Rushdin al-Misri narrated to us, saying: Amr ibn Khalid al-Harami narrated to us, saying: Ibn Luheiya narrated to us, from Abu al-Aswad, from Urwa ibn al-Zubair, from Aisha (ra), who said: Al-Husayn ibn Ali (ra) entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) while he was receiving revelation, and he jumped on the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) as he was bent over and played on his back. Then Jibril (peace be upon him) said to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), "Do you love him, O Muhammad?" He said, "O Jibril, how could I not love one who is well-known?" Jibril replied, "Your nation will kill him after you." Then Jibril (peace be upon him) extended his hand and brought him a white soil, saying, "In this land, your son will be killed, O Muhammad. Its name is Karbala." When Jibril (peace be upon him) departed from the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) went out with the soil in his hand, weeping. He said, "O Aisha, Jibril (peace be upon him) informed me that Al-Husayn is well-known and will be killed in the land of Karbala, and that my nation will be tempted after me." Then he went out to his companions, among them Ali, Abu Bakr, Umar, Hudhayfa, Ammar, and Abu Dharr (ra), while he was weeping. They said, "What makes you weep, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "Jibril informed me that the well-known Al-Husayn will be killed after me in the land of Karbala, and he came to me with this soil, telling me that it will be his resting place."

2815 - Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Hadhrami narrated to us, who said: Al-Husayn ibn Hurayth narrated to us, who said: Al-Fadl ibn Musa narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn Sa'id, from his father, from Aisha, that Al-Husayn ibn Ali entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "O Aisha, would you not be amazed? A angel just entered upon me who has never entered upon me before." And he said: "My son will be killed," and he added, "If you wish, I can show you the soil in which he will be killed." Then the angel took his hand and showed me red soil.

2817 - Abdullah ibn Ahmad ibn Hanbal narrated to us, saying: Abbas ibn Ziyad al-Asadi narrated to me, from Amr ibn Thabit, from al-A'mash, from Abu Wa'il, Shaqiq ibn Salamah, from Umm Salamah, who said: Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn (peace be upon them) were playing in front of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in my house when Gabriel (peace be upon him) descended and said: "O Muhammad, your Ummah will kill this son of yours after you," and he gestured with his hand to Al-Husayn. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) wept and embraced him to his chest. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "This soil is a trust with you." So, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) smelled it and said: "Woe to you, O sorrow and calamity." Umm Salamah said: And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) continued: "O Umm Salamah, when this soil transforms into blood, know that a notable one has been killed." Umm Salamah kept it in a vial and would look at it every day, saying: "A day will come when you transform into blood, and it will be a great day."

2819 - Al-Husayn ibn Ishaq al-Tustari narrated to us, from Yahya ibn Abd al-Hamid al-Hamani, from Sulayman ibn Balal, from Kathir ibn Zayd, from Abd al-Muttalib ibn Abdullah ibn Hunatab, from Umm Salamah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was sitting one day in my house and said, "No one should enter upon me." So I waited, and Al-Husayn (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered. I heard the sound of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) weeping. I looked out to see Al-Husayn in his lap, and the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was wiping his forehead and crying. I said, "By Allah, I did not know when he entered." He replied, "Gabriel (peace be upon him) was with us in the house and said, 'Do you love him?' I said, 'As for this world, yes.' He said, 'Your nation will kill him in a land called Karbala.' Then Gabriel (peace be upon him) took from its soil and showed it to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). When Al-Husayn was surrounded at the time of his killing, he said, 'What is the name of this land?' They said, 'Karbala.' He said, 'Allah and His Messenger speak the truth, the land of grief and tribulation.'"

2820 - Al-Husayn ibn Ishaq al-Testari narrated to us, saying: Ali ibn Bahr narrated to us, saying: Isa ibn Yunus narrated to us. And Ubayd ibn Ghanam narrated to us, saying: Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, saying: Ya'la ibn Ubayd narrated to us. Both said: Musa ibn Salih al-Juhani narrated to us, from Salih ibn Arbad, from Umm Salamah (peace be upon her), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to me, "Sit at the door and let no one come in to me." So I stood at the door when Al-Husayn (peace be upon him) came. I went to take him, but the boy got ahead of me and entered to his grandfather. I said, "O Prophet of Allah, may God make me your sacrifice! You commanded me not to let anyone enter upon you, and when your son came, I went to take him, but the boy got ahead of me." That was prolonged. I looked out from the door and found you turning something in your hands and your tears flowing, with the child on your belly." He said, "Yes, Gabriel came to me and informed me that my ummah will kill him, and he brought me the soil on which he will be killed, and that is what I am turning in my hands."

2821 - Bakr ibn Sahel al-Dimyati narrated to us, saying: Ja'far ibn Musafir al-Tinnisi narrated to us, saying: Ibn Abi Fudayk narrated to us, saying: Musa ibn Ya'qub al-Zum'ei narrated to us, from Hashim ibn Hashim ibn Utbah ibn Abi Waqqas, from Utbah ibn Abdullah ibn Zum'ah, from Umm Salamah: that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) lay down one day and woke up feeling heavy of spirit, with a handful of red soil that he was turning over. I said: What is this soil, O Messenger of Allah? He replied: Gabriel (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) informed me that this will be used to kill Husayn in the land of Iraq. So I said to Gabriel (peace be upon him and his holy progeny): Show me the soil of the land where he will be killed, and this is its soil.

2824 - Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Hadhrami narrated to us, saying: Abdullah ibn al-Hakam ibn Abi Ziyad and Ahmad ibn Yahya al-Sufi both said: Ubaidullah ibn Musa narrated to us, from Israel, from Abu Ishaq, from Hani ibn Hani from Ali (ra), who said: "Al-Husayn will surely be killed, and I know the soil in which he will be killed, near the two rivers."

8096 - Ali ibn Said al-Razi narrated to us, saying: Isma'il ibn Ibrahim ibn al-Mughira al-Marwazi narrated to us, saying: Ibn al-Hasan ibn Shaqiq narrated to us, saying: al-Husayn ibn Waqid narrated to me, from Abu Ghalib, from Abu Umamah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to his wives: "Do not weep for this boy" - meaning al-Husayn. He was with Umm Salamah that day. Then Gabriel (peace be upon him) descended and entered, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to Umm Salamah: "Do not let anyone enter upon me." So al-Husayn (RA) came, and when he saw the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in the house, he wanted to enter, but Umm Salamah took him and hugged him, soothing him and playing with him. When he became very distressed and started to cry, she released him, and he entered until he sat in the lap of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). Then Gabriel (peace be upon him) said, "Your community will kill your son." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied, "They will kill him while they are believers in me." He said, "Yes, they will kill him." Then Gabriel took some soil and said, "It will be in a place like this." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) then emerged, holding al-Husayn, with a downcast expression, troubled and anxious. Umm Salamah thought he was angry at the boy's entering, so she said, "O Prophet of Allah, may I be your ransom! You told us not to weep for this boy and commanded me not to let him enter upon you. He came, and I let him go, but you did not respond to me." He went out to his companions who were sitting and said to them: "My community will kill this one," and among them were Abu Bakr and Umar (RA), who were the boldest of the people towards him. They said, "O Prophet of Allah, will they kill him while they are believers?" He said, "Yes, and this is his soil," and he showed it to them.

I looked out, and saw al-Husayn in his lap or beside him, stroking his head and crying. I said: "By Allah, I did not know it when he entered." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Gabriel was in the house." He then said: "Do you love him?" I replied: "As for in this world, yes." He said: "Your ummah will kill him in a land called Karbala." Then Gabriel took some of the soil from it and showed it to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). When al-Husayn was surrounded at the time of his death, he said: "What is the name of this land?" They said: "Karbala." He said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) spoke the truth. It is the land of grief and trial."

697 - Ibrahim ibn Duhaym narrated to us, saying: Musa ibn Ya'qub narrated to me, from Hashim ibn Hashim from Wahb ibn Abdullah ibn Zum'ah, who said: Umm Salama informed me that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) lay down one day to sleep and awoke with a heavy heart. He lay down again and dozed off, then woke up with some red soil in his hand, which he was turning over. I said, "What is this soil, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Gabriel informed me that this will be used to kill Hussein in the land of Iraq." I said to Gabriel, "Show me the soil of the land where he will be killed," and this is its soil. Abdullah ibn al-Jarud al-Naisaburi narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Hafs narrated to me, from my father, from Ibrahim, from Obad ibn Ishaq, from Hashim ibn Hashim, from Abdullah ibn Wahb ibn Zum'ah, from Umm Salama, from the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) similar to this.

141 - Ali ibn Abd al-Aziz narrated to us, he said: Abu Na'im narrated to us, he said: Abd al-Salam ibn Harb narrated to us, from Layth, from Abu al-Qasim, the freedman of Zaynab, from Zaynab bint Jahsh, that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was sleeping beside her while Husayn was crawling in the house. She became inattentive to him, and he crawled until he reached the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), climbed onto his belly, and placed his private part in his navel. She said: The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) woke up, and I went to him and lifted him off his belly. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Leave my son." When he finished urinating, he took a jug of water and poured it on him, then said: "It is poured on a boy and washed off a girl." She said: He performed ablution and then stood to pray, holding him. He would place him when he bowed and prostrated, and carry him when he stood. When he sat, he would begin to pray and raise his hands, saying: "O Allah, help me!" When he finished the prayer, I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I saw you doing something today that I have not seen you do before." He said: "Gabriel came to me and informed me that my son would be killed." I said: "Show me then," so he brought me a handful of red soil..
