358 - (Raised Hadith): Abu Khaythamah narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Ubayd narrated to us, saying: Sharhabil ibn Mudrik informed us, from Abdullah ibn Naji, from his father, who said: I traveled with Ali, and he was the guardian of his purification (wudu). When he reached the vicinity of Nineveh while heading to Siffin, Ali called out: "Be patient, O Abu Abdullah! Be patient, O Abu Abdullah, by the banks of the Euphrates!" I said, "What is it, O Abu Abdullah?" He replied: "I entered upon the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) one day, and his eyes were overflowing with tears." I said, "O Prophet of Allah, has someone made you angry? What is the matter with your eyes overflowing?"
He said: "Rather, Gabriel arose from before me earlier and told me that Hussein would be killed by the banks of the Euphrates." Then he said, "Would you like me to let you smell his soil?" I said, "Yes." So he extended his hand, took a handful of soil, and gave it to me. I could not help but have my eyes overflow with tears."
