Al-Husayn ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib ibn Abd al-Muttalib ibn Hashim ibn Abd Manaf, Abu Abd Allah, the grandson of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and his solace in this world.
Volume: (14) - Page Number: (187/188)
- Abu Ghalib ibn al-Banna narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Ghana'im ibn Mamun narrated to me, saying: Abu al-Qasim ibn Hababah narrated to me, saying: Abu al-Qasim al-Baghawi narrated to me: Yusuf ibn Musa al-Qattan informed me, saying: Muhammad ibn Ubayd narrated to us, saying: Sharhabil ibn Mudrik al-Ja'fiy narrated to me from Abdullah ibn Naji, from his father, who said: "He traveled with Ali ibn Abi Talib, and was his companion in purification. When they were passing by Ninawa, while he was en route to Siffin, Ali called out: 'Be patient, O Abu Abd Allah! Be patient, O Abu Abd Allah! at the bank of the Euphrates.' I said, 'Who is Abu Abd Allah?' He replied: 'I entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and his eyes were overflowing with tears. I said, "O Prophet of Allah, has someone made you angry? What is the matter with your eyes?" He said: "No, rather Gabriel stood up from beside me and told me that Husayn will be killed by the bank of the Euphrates." He added, "Would you like me to let you smell his soil?" I said, "Yes." So he extended his hand, took a handful, and gave it to me. It did not mean that I could control my eyes from overflowing."' Ninawa: pronounced with a broken first letter, in the pattern of Ta'itawa, is an area in the outskirts of Kufa.

- My father told me, saying: Muhammad ibn Ubayd narrated to us, saying: Sharhabil ibn Mudrik narrated to us, from Abd Allah ibn Najji, from his father, that he traveled with Ali, and Ibn al-Muqri said that he asked Ali and that he was Ali's companion of purification. When he reached the vicinity of Ninawa while on his way to Siffin, he called out, "Be patient, Abu Abdillah! Be patient, Abu Abdillah! by the banks of the Euphrates." I said, "What is it, Abu Abdillah?" He replied, "I entered upon the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) one day, and his eyes were overflowing with tears." I said, "O Prophet of Allah, has someone made you angry? What is the matter with your eyes overflowing?" He said, "No, rather Gabriel stood up from beside me before and informed me that Husayn will be killed by the banks of the Euphrates." Then he said, "Is it acceptable for me to let you smell his soil?" I replied, "Yes," so he extended his hand, and Ibn Hamdan said: He extended his hand and took a handful of soil, giving it to me, and I could not help but have my eyes overflow with tears."
- Muhammad ibn Ubayd narrated to us, saying: Sharhabil ibn Mudrik narrated to us, from Abd Allah ibn Najji, from his father, that he traveled with Ali, and Ibn al-Muqri said that he asked Ali and that he was Ali's companion of purification. When he reached the vicinity of Ninawa while on his way to Siffin, he called out, "Be patient, Abu Abdillah! Be patient, Abu Abdillah! by the banks of the Euphrates." I said, "What did he say?" He replied, "I entered upon the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) one day, and his eyes were overflowing with tears." I said, "O Prophet of Allah, has someone made you angry? What is the matter with your eyes overflowing?" He said, "No, rather Gabriel stood up from beside me before and informed me that Husayn will be killed by the banks of the Euphrates." Then he said, "Do you want to smell his soil?" I replied, "Yes," so he extended his hand, took a handful of soil, and gave it to me, and I could not help but have my eyes overflow with tears."
- We were informed by Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Abd al-Baqi, who said: al-Hasan ibn Ali narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn al-Abbas, who said: Ahmad ibn Ma'ruf narrated to us, from al-Husayn ibn al-Fah, who said: Muhammad ibn Sa'd narrated to us, from Ali ibn Muhammad, from Yahya ibn Zakariya, from a man, from Amir al-Sha'bi, who said: Ali said while he was on the banks of the Euphrates: "Be patient, Abu Abdillah." Then he said: "I entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and his eyes were overflowing with tears. I said, 'Has something happened?'" He said, "Gabriel informed me that Husayn will be killed by the banks of the Euphrates." Then he said, "Would you like me to show you some of his soil?" I replied, "Yes," so he took a handful of his soil and placed it in my palm, and I could not help but have my eyes overflow with tears."

It was on the day of Umm Salamah. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: O Umm Salamah, guard the door for us; let no one enter upon us. While she was at the door, Al-Husayn ibn Ali came, pushed his way in, opened the door, and entered. He began to leap onto the back of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) kept kissing and embracing him. While she was at the door, Al-Husayn, son of Ali, entered, jumped, and pushed his way in, leaping onto the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) began to kiss and embrace him. Then the king said to him: Do you love him? He replied: Yes. The king said: Your community will kill him, and if you wish, I can show you the place where he will be killed. He showed it to him and brought him a handful of either soil or red earth. Umm Salamah took it and placed it in her shawl. Thabit said: We used to say it was Karbala.

- And it was narrated to us by Abu al-Muthaffar al-Qushayri, who said: Abu Sa'd Muhammad ibn Abdul-Rahman narrated to me, saying: Abu Umr ibn Hamdan narrated to me, from my father Ya'ya, who said: Shayban ibn Furukh narrated to us, from Imarah ibn Zadhran, from Thabit ibn Anas, who said: An angel of the kingdom (or realm) sought permission from his Lord to visit the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and he was granted permission. It was on the day of Umm Salamah. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "O Umm Salamah, keep the door closed; do not let anyone enter upon us." While she was at the door, Al-Husayn ibn Ali came, pushed open the door, and entered. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) began to embrace him and kiss him. The angel said, "Do you love him?" He replied, "Yes." The angel then said, "Your nation will kill him. If you wish, I can show you the place where they will kill him." He answered, "Yes." So the angel gathered a handful of soil from the place where he would be killed and showed it to him, bringing back a small amount of reddish soil or dust. Umm Salamah took it and placed it in her shawl....
- From Abu Umamah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to his wives, "Do not weep for this boy" (meaning Al-Husayn). It was the day of Umm Salamah when Gabriel descended and entered the house of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). He said to Umm Salamah, "Do not let anyone enter upon me." Al-Husayn came, and when he saw the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in the house, he wanted to enter. Umm Salamah took hold of him, hugged him, and began to play with him to soothe him. When he became more insistent in his crying, she let him go, and he entered until he sat in the lap of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). Gabriel then said to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), "Your nation will kill this son of yours." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied, "They will kill him while they are believers in me." Gabriel said, "Yes, they will kill him," and he took a handful of soil, saying, "From a place like this." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) came out, holding Al-Husayn, with a downcast expression, troubled and worried. Umm Salamah thought he was upset by the child's entry and said, "O Prophet of Allah, may I be your sacrifice! You told us not to weep for this boy and commanded me not to let anyone enter upon you. He came, and I let him go." But he did not respond to her. He went out to his companions, who were sitting, and said to them, "My nation will kill this one," pointing to Al-Husayn, "in the presence of Abu Bakr and Umar," who were the most daring of the people towards him. They both said, "O Prophet of Allah, will they kill him while they are believers?" He replied, "Yes, this is his soil," and showed it to them...

- Narrated from Abdullah ibn Wahb, from Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered my house and said: "No one should enter upon me." She said: Then I heard his voice, so I entered and found Al-Husayn ibn Ali with him, and he was sad, or she said, crying. I said: What is the matter with you, O Messenger of Allah? He said: Gabriel informed me that my Ummah would kill this one after me, and I said: Who will kill him? Then he took a handful of soil and said: The people of this soil will kill him...
- From Umm Salamah, who said: Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn were playing in front of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in my house when Gabriel descended and said: "O Muhammad, your Ummah will kill this son of yours after you," and he gestured with his hand to Al-Husayn. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) wept and pulled him to his chest. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "This soil is a trust with you," and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) smelled it and said: "It has the scent of anguish and trial." She said: And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Umm Salamah, when this soil transforms into blood, know that my son has been killed." Umm Salamah kept it in a vial and would look at it every day, meaning, and say: "A day will come when you transform into blood, and it will be a great day."

- Um Salama reported: Gabriel was with the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and Al-Husayn was with me, and he cried. I left him, and he went to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). Then Gabriel approached and said, "Do you love him, Muhammad?" He replied, "Yes." Gabriel said, "Your Ummah will kill him, and if you wish, I can show you the soil of the earth where he will be killed." Then he showed him to me, and it was a land called Karbala....
- From Aisha or Um Salama, it was narrated that Waki' was unsure, meaning Abdullah ibn Sa'id, that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to one of them, "A heavenly being came to me in the house, one that had not entered before." He said to me, "Your son, Al-Husayn, is to be killed, and if you wish, I can show you the soil of the earth where he will be killed." Then he brought out what appeared to be a small pouch to the Prophet and said, "Red soil."
- Um Salama said: The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was asleep when Al-Husayn came crawling. She said: So I sat at the door and got there before him, fearing he would enter and wake him. Then I became distracted for a moment, and he crawled in and sat on his stomach. She said: I then heard the weeping of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), so I came and said, "O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, I did not know he was here." He replied, "Gabriel (peace be upon him) came to me while he was sitting on my stomach and said to me, 'Do you love him?' I said, 'Yes.' He then said, 'Your Ummah will kill him. Would you like to see the soil where he will be killed?' I said, 'Yes.' Then he struck with his wing and brought this soil." I asked, "What was in his hand?" He replied, "Red soil," and he was crying and saying, 'Oh, how I wish I knew who would kill you after me....'

- Ibn Sa'd said: Ali ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from Uthman ibn Muqsim, from al-Maqbari, from Aisha, who said: While the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was asleep, al-Husayn came crawling to him, so I moved him away from him. Then I stood up for something I needed to do, and he approached him. He awoke and was crying, so I said, "What makes you cry?" He said, "Gabriel showed me the soil on which al-Husayn will be killed, and the anger of Allah grew severe against those who shed his blood." He stretched out his hand, and there was a handful of dust, and he said, 'O Aisha, by the One in whose hand is my life, it hurts me, and it is from this that my Ummah will kill al-Husayn after me.'"
- Zainab said: While the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was in my house and al-Husayn was with me as he was growing, I became distracted and he entered the place of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and sat on his belly. She said: So I went to take him away, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) awoke and said, "Leave him." I let him be until he finished, then he called for water and said, "It is poured from a boy and washed from a girl." They poured water over him, then he performed ablution and stood to pray. When he stood, he held him to himself, and if he bowed .... or sat, he would place him down, then sit and cry. Then he stretched out his hand, and I said when he finished the prayer, "O Messenger of Allah, I saw you do something today that I have not seen you do before." He said, "Gabriel came to me and informed me that this one will be killed by my Ummah." I said, "Show me," and he showed me red soil."

- From Umm al-Fadl bint al-Harith: that she entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! I saw a strange dream tonight." He said, "What is it?" She replied, "It is very serious." He asked, "What is it?" She said, "I saw a piece of your body cut off and placed in my lap." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) then said, "You saw good. Fatimah will, with Allah's permission, give birth to a boy, and he will be in your lap." Fatimah gave birth to al-Husayn, and he was in my lap, just as the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) had said. One day, I entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and placed him in my lap. Then, I turned my attention away for a moment, and suddenly I saw the eyes of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) overflowing with tears. She said, "I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you! What is wrong with you?'" He said, "Gabriel (peace be upon him) came to me and informed me that my nation will kill my son." I said, "Is this what you meant?" He replied, "Yes, and he brought me soil from his soil, red soil."
- From Jumhan: that Gabriel came to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) with soil from the soil of the village where al-Husayn was killed, and it was said to be named Karbala. The Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "Grief and trial."

- Anas ibn Malik narrated: The angel of the rain requested permission from his Lord to visit the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and He granted him permission. It was the day of Umm Salamah. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "Umm Salamah, keep the door closed for us, so that no one can enter." While she was at the door, Al-Husayn ibn Ali entered, jumped, and pushed the door open. He came in and began to leap on the back of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was kissing and embracing him. The angel said to him, "Do you love him?" He replied, "Yes." The angel continued, "Your community will kill him. If you wish, I can show you the place where he will be killed." He replied, "Yes." Then the angel took a handful of the place where he would be killed. He showed it to him, and it became a soft earth or red soil. Umm Salamah took it and placed it in her garment." - Abu Umamah narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to his wives: "Do not weep for this boy" (meaning Husayn). He said, "It was on the day of Umm Salamah when Gabriel descended and entered the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), who said to Umm Salamah: 'Do not let anyone enter upon me.' Then Husayn came, and when he saw the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in the house, he wanted to enter, but Umm Salamah took hold of him, embraced him, and began to play with him and soothe him. When he began to cry more intensely, she released him, and he entered until he sat in the lap of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). Then Gabriel said to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), "Your ummah will kill this son of yours." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied, "They will kill him while they are believers in me." Gabriel said, "Yes, they will kill him." Then Gabriel took some soil and said, "In a place like this." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) then left, holding Husayn, his mind clouded and worried. Umm Salamah thought he was upset about the child entering him and said, "O Prophet of Allah, may I be your ransom! You said to us, 'Do not weep for this boy,' and ordered me not to let anyone enter upon you. But he came, and I let him be.' The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) did not respond to her. He went out to his companions, who were sitting, and said to them, 'My ummah will kill this one,' and among the people were Abu Bakr and Umar, who were the boldest of them towards him. They said, 'O Prophet of Allah, will they kill him while they are believers?' He replied, 'Yes, this is his soil,' and he showed them the soil."

He woke up again, still angry - Abu Ghalib added: then he returned and woke up, still angry - and they both said: it was less than what you saw from him the first time. Then he lay down and woke up, holding some red soil, and I said, "What is this, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "Gabriel informed me that my son will be killed in the land of Iraq, for al-Husayn."

He replied, "Gabriel informed me that my son Husayn will be killed in the land of Iraq. - Saleh ibn Arbad al-Nakha'i said: Umm Salamah said, the Prophet of Allah spoke to me: "Sit at the door and let no one enter upon me." She said, so I sat by the door, and al-Husayn came, dressed in white, and I went to reach for him, but he surpassed me and entered. That is what she said. When he delayed in coming to me, I became worried that he might have sensed my displeasure, so I peeked out the door and saw the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) holding something in his hand, turning it over, while the boy was asleep on his stomach, and tears were streaming down. When he ordered me to enter, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, your son came, and I went to reach for him, but he surpassed me. When he delayed, I feared he might sense my displeasure." She said: Then I heard his voice, and I entered to find him with Husayn ibn Ali, and he was sad, or she said, crying. I said: What is the matter with you, O Messenger of Allah? - Narrated from Umm Salamah, who said: Al-Hasan and al-Husayn were playing in front of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in my house when Gabriel descended and said: "O Muhammad, your Ummah will kill this son of yours after you," and he gestured with his hand to Husayn. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "O Umm Salamah, this soil is a trust with you."
